• Broken Base: Among fans of Harvey Kurtzman's work, there's been an endless debate over whether the comic is good raunchy fun or one of Kurtzman's weaker creations due to Annie's Innocent Fanservice Girl antics making the work a one-trick pony.
• Values Dissonance: Several strips contain stereotypes that would be considered very offensive today, with the January 1976 strip "The Gay Scene" in particular having Annie traumatized by her encounter with several Camp Gay men and a transgender woman and her reactions being played for humor.
