YMMV / LEGO DC Super-Villains

See here for YMMV about the original LEGO Batman Trilogy games.

  • Adorkable: Scarecrow has a surprising amount of dorky cuteness to him, being a major fanboy of Sinestro and having moments of nervousness and awkwardness.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: The Rookie joining the heroes in an alternate ending. Did they join them because they wanted to reform themselves, or was it to get back at Luthor, who previously backstabbed everyone twice?
  • Angst? What Angst?: The Legion don't seem to have any big reaction towards Lex double crossing them twice and they mostly gloss over it. Even when they confront him about it, they don't seem to be angry about the situation. They do agree that they could've been in Lex's position and double cross everyone as well.
  • Broken Base:
    • The choice over whether to stay as a villain or become a hero at the end of the game. Some liked it as it felt like a Choose Your Own Adventure scenario. Others were disappointed because they wanted their custom character to stay a villain throughout.
    • On a related note: which was the better ending? Some picked the hero ending as they wanted their character to join the heroes and fight crime (and even spite Luthor for his betrayals). Others picked the villain ending since the game's focus is on villains and their character has been with them more (as a bonus, the character is even talked about being the villains' leader after Luthor can't be trusted).
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • About midway through LEGO DC Super-Villains, Poison Ivy's panic when a Kraken drags the Hall of Doom into the ocean, knowing Harley was inside. Ivy quickly forces Black Manta and King Shark to rescue her friend.
    • The Joker actually cares for and loves Harley Quinn when compared to other, darker incarnations. At his theme park/lair which greatly bears his image throughout, the Ferris wheel has a giant statue in Harley's image. Dawww. Even the opening has Joker not leave her behind for a helicopter escape.
    • When Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Rookie arrive on Dinosaur Island to rescue Superman, Superman is nothing but polite and cordial to "Rookie" when they meet.
    • If the player has their custom supervillain choose to reform and join the Justice League. The other choice is also heartwarming but in a different way. If the player has their custom supervillain stay a villain, they're being loyal to the group that considered them a friend of sorts. In fact, The Joker points out that since Lex Luthor obviously can't be trusted, he suggests that The Rookie should be their new leader!
    • Bonus point: If Rookie chooses to join the Justice League, Joker makes it clear he doesn't fault them for that choice, speculating that Rookie switched sides because they were fed up with Lex Luthor's betrayals (which Rookie confirms with a nod).
    • The side mission to unlock Orion involves helping him go around Apokolips picking fights with various bad guys as a way of getting some anger out from his issues with his biological father, Darkseid. After they're done, Orion takes a moment to acknowledge that "[his] REAL dad, Izaya, is great."
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • This is now the second time Charlie Schlatter has been replaced with Michael Rosenbaum as the Flash.
    • It's not the first game to have a customized character nicknamed "Rookie" play an important role in the plot.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Krypto-might need some help: The evil clone of Jimmy Olsen, created by Darkseid to trick and destroy Superman, tricks the player into freeing him from his prison and has them escort him to a teleporter to earth. Revealing his deceptions and instructing you to teleport him, you can either do what he says and he rewards you, or you can try to teleport him to the sun, at which point he reveals that he hacked the lever in advance to teleport him to earth anyways, nonetheless still rewarding you for your troubles.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In The Stinger, Darkseid has been beaten and all is well, right? One might think so... until the Anti-Monitor shows up, declines a cup of tea the now-reformed dictator offers, gives a blood-curdling roar and blasts Darkseid in the face, probably killing him.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Metallo. After the first level, most people thought he would be in the story. Instead, he's only a one-episode character and doesn't appear afterwards. Plus, when you unlock him in free play, he doesn't have the flight ability he had in the first level.
    • The 5th level was about the villains who got arrested busting out. However, Heat Wave, Scarecrow, Mirror Master, Two-Face, the Penguin, and Metallo didn't participate despite being locked up as well.
    • Some wish that Malcolm Merlyn had more than two levels of being playable (with the 5th level being his last), as he seemed to be a key character and it was his first time being in the story.
    • Black Adam doesn't get as much prominence as Sinestro and Gorilla Grodd despite being one of the three people the Legion needed to recruit. He only has a few lines and doesn't contribute much to the plot.
    • Two-Face, the Penguin, and the Riddler stop being playable after just the 2nd level and are pushed to the background for the rest of the story. Extra points go to Two-Face, who only has 3 lines throughout.
    • Despite being mentioned as the source of the Custom Character's abilities, Amazo doesn't even make an appearance.
    • Owlman and Superwoman are the only Crime Syndicate members to not have proper boss battles, being relegated to just quick puzzles where you help Batman and Wonder Woman gain the upper hand in their fights.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Some players expected the villains to defeat Darkseid on their own and only then save the Justice League and were surprised by the resulted Enemy Mine situation. Adding on to this, the Legion of Doom stopping the Crime Syndicate, going up against Darkseid, and saving the League by themselves would've made the story more original rather than simply having the Justice League escape with no trouble and join the battle against their enemies (though there were five bonus levels that showed how they managed to escape).
    • Lex turning on everyone could've worked better if it was foreshadowed earlier on and the Legion showed more emotion rather than just letting it go. Afterwards, Lex is forgotten about until the last level with no one recalling his betrayal.
  • Unexpected Character:
  • Unnecessary Makeover:
    • Most fans dislike Killer Frost's change in design and prefer her appearance from the Lego Batman 3 "Heroes and Villainesses" DLC.
    • Two-Face's new design has been met with some scorn. The more classic look from the Batman: The Animated Series DLC was much better-received.
