YMMV / Legacy of the Wizard

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Yuzo Koshiro and Mieko Ishikawa wrote the music, who also did the music for a number of Falcom games like Ys. The dungeon themes are all bonafide ear worm material.
  • Demonic Spiders: The one spider enemy is easy, it's the invisible enemies that require you to touch them in order to be able to damage them that drain massive damage.
  • I Am Not Shazam: The Japanese title is Drasle Family, but the family controlled by the player are not known as the Drasles; their actual surname is Worzen, revealed in the credits. "Drasle Family" is just a portmanteau name of the Dragon Slayer series this game is part of.
  • Low-Tier Letdown: Roas is the only one who can wield the Dragon Slayer (and therefore, the only one who can defeat the final boss), yet he doesn't have access to most of the items. He's outclassed by virtually every other character, and the only time he is of any use is the endgame where you already collected everything and are on your way to finish the game. Players have jokingly called him a deadbeat who steals the show in the final moment.
  • That One Boss: Rockgaea, who can kill Xemn in 3 hits.
  • That One Level:
    • The Noob Bridge before Lyll's crown that requires trial-by-error knowledge of which blocks are real, pixel perfect jumping precision and masterful item and magic management. Oh, and everytime you fall you have to fight a Lion and a Roid Moon, forcing you to expend magic before the boss fight.
    • The block puzzle rooms in Xemn'a area. 11-1 in particular for its lazy repetitive design.
    • Some of the areas toward the end of Meyna's area can get tedious due to the layout requiring frequent item changing to get past, including tight narrow spiked corridors, dangerous invisible enemies that can't be damaged until they damage the player, rows and rows of locked doors, block puzzles where once again Mrs. Worzen is constantly getting shit-kicked by said blocks, all leading up to a heavily guarded crown.
    • After Roas collects the Dragon Slayer, he is warped deep into Pochi's area. Most of the monsters here do massive damage to a human. A special shout-out goes to the translucent wall scorpions and other such enemies that require the player to take contact damage before they can be harmed.
