• Jerkass Woobie: What Kristen did to Heather's family was awful, giving them false hope that their missing daughter had finally returned, but given that she did it to escape being kept as a Sex Slave by her own father, it's hard not to sympathize with her. She isn't so much a bad person as a very, very desperate and traumatized one.
• Tear Jerker:
  • After the detectives determine Kristen's real identity, Olivia asks Kristen why she pretended to be Heather rather than go home to her own mother, to which Kristen replies that her mother died, her father showed her the obituary. Olivia then tells her that it was a lie, her mother is alive and never stopped looking for her after she went missing. If the look on Kristen's face at hearing that doesn't get the tears flowing, the subsequent scene of her finally being reunited with her mother will.
  • After Kristen's lie is revealed, Erica still holds on to hope that she knows what happened to Heather and frantically begs her in the courtroom to tell them.
    Erica: Why are you doing this to us? We took you into our home! We trusted you! Where is Heather? What has happened to her? You have to tell us! Please don't let her leave this room without telling us!
  • Erica's absolute devastation when she learns that Heather was Dead All Along, having been murdered by their other sister Nikki, and that their mother had known for years and kept it a secret so she wouldn't lose Nikki too. What's more, it looks like after all that, the mother is likely to lose both of her surviving daughters, as not only is Nikki going to jail after all, but now Erica is absolutely furious at her mother.
