|These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.|
YMMV: Kramer vs. Kramer
- Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped: The court system is inherently prejudiced against men when it comes to child custody battles. This was an anvil that desperately needed to be dropped back then, and we still need reminding of today. The fact Joanna came so close to getting full custody of her son even after abandoning him, and only averts this by giving up her fight, drives it home.
- Star-Making Role: For Streep.
- Tear Jerker: Quite possibly the Ur Example of 20th century cinema.
- Throw It In: The scene where Ted slaps the wine glass against the wall wasn't scripted. Joanna's reaction was really Meryl Streep surprised that he did that.
