YMMV / Koharu no Hibi

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Neither the audience nor the characters can read Koharu at all. Is she a pathetic girl looking for affection, a girl who's finally found someone to interact with or a yandere stalker who will do anything to have a guy she barely knows all to herself?
    • It seems to run on the family. Her daughter and mother are this as well.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • The titular Koharu herself. A large portion of the audience loves her, openly wish she was their girlfriend, and find she isn't as bad as other Yanderes. Others see her as a creepy, controlling, sociopathic stalker and overall a very poor love interest for anyone, and feel that the story is too eager to gloss over her questionable-to-awful actions because she's "cute", whereas if it was a man stalking a woman it would not be considered cute at all.
    • Predictably, as soon as the Childhood Friend Maki appeared, she was immediately despised by a large portion of the fanbase for getting in the way of the Akira/Koharu relationship, calling her "The Interloper". However, there is a portion of the audience that does agree with her when she says Koharu takes her love too far sometimes, and who prefer her as a love interest, feeling that her relationship with Akira is based off her liking him as a person rather than Koharu Loving a Shadow (as the manga itself acknowledges and then brushes off).
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Akira and Koharu end up Happily Married with a daughter. Too bad Koharu is still the same manipulative, controlling stalker she was since the beginning, and not only has she not changed, but now she's raised her daughter to be the same as her. And that daughter has already found herself a victim.
