  • Awesome Music: The theme tune composed by Jerrold Immel, who also composed the Dallas theme tune.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In "Gone Microfiching", Julie asks Frank what he knows about safe sex and AIDS. Larry Riley, who played Frank, died in June 1992, less than 18 months after this episode aired, of AIDS-related renal failure.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Alec Baldwin starred as Joshua Rush in Seasons Six and Seven.
    • Halle Berry played the recurring character Debbie Porter in Season Thirteen.
    • Gary Sinise played the one scene role of Lee Maddox in the Season One episode "Small Surprises".
    • Karen Allen plays Sid's daughter Annie in the pilot episode.
    • Brian Austin Green played Abby's son Brian Cunningham from Season Eight to Season Ten.
    • Helen Hunt appeared in two episodes of Season Two as a friend of Diana's. She was named Betsy in her first appearance and Brenda in her second. She was also credited (as Betsy) in another episode in the interim but did not appear (This indicates that Hunt's scene was deleted as the credits are prepared long before the final broadcast edit).
    • Marcia Cross played the recurring character Victoria Broyard in Season Thirteen.
    • Billy Bob Thornton played a logger in the Season Thirteen episode "Letting Go".
    • Doug Savant played a younger version of Mack in several flashback scenes in Season Eight, sharing scenes with his future Desperate Housewives co-star Nicollette Sheridan.
    • David James Elliott played the recurring character Bill Nolan in Season Fourteen.
    • Kristy Swanson played Jody Campbell in Season Nine.
    • Leslie Hope played Linda Martin in Season Seven.
    • Conchata Ferrell plays Mrs. Messinger, the mother of the teenage girl Pam who falsely accused Sid of rape, in the season season two-part premiere "Hitchhike".

    • Michael Dorn played a paramedic in the Season Three episode "The Vigil".
    • Dennis Haskins played a police officer in the Season Four episode "The Loss of Innocence".
    • Stephen Tobolowsky played Steve Comiskey in the Season Six episode "A Man of Good Will".
    • Dennis Haysbert played a police officer in the Season Eight episode "The Unraveling".
    • Gregory Itzin, another 24 President, played Valene's lawyer in the Season Ten episode "A Grave Misunderstanding".
    • Gary Graham played Cal, one of the armed robbers who holds the women of Seaview Circle hostage, in the Season Two episode "Moments of Truth".
    • John Walsh, later the host of America's Most Wanted, played an art director in the Season Four episode "The Best Kept Secret".
    • Judith Barsi, the child star of The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven who along with her mother was murdered by her father in 1988, played a bratty little girl in the Season Six episode "#14 with a Bullet".
    • Dana Ashbrook played Olivia's drug dealer in the Season Eight episodes "The Unraveling" and "No Miracle Worker".
    • Adam Arkin played the recurring character Mark Baylor in Season Eleven.
    • Jana Marie Hupp played Susie Richfield in four episodes of Season Twelve.
    • Don S. Davis played Warden Vernon Howard in the Season Thirteen finale "Little Girl Lost".
  • Unintentional Period Piece: It's ironic, considering he is part of the "hip, young couple", that Kenny's disco duds and bean-bag filled home date the show way more than some of the mid-life couples.
