* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Kirby:
*** Kirby is quite a cocky {{Jerkass}} in ''Kirby's Avalanche''. More famously: Kirby is a much less straightforward hero than most of them, notably [[ImAHumanitarian eating definitely sentient beings alive]], releasing [[EldritchAbomination eldritch abominations]] on a daily basis, and sometimes, going on quests and slaughtering people for rather... ambiguous reasons (in ''Squeak Squad'': '''''CAKE'''''.) This led to many alternative interpretations of Kirby.
*** ''Webcomic/BrawlInTheFamily'', ''WebVideo/ThereWillBeBrawl'', ''WebAnimation/DeathBattle'' and ''WebVideo/SonicForHire'' all play with this, treating Kirby as anything from an EldritchAbomination to a SociopathicHero.
*** AmericanKirbyIsHardcore is another good example of this in action. Classic ''Kirby's Dream Land 2'' ads featured Kirby and his animal friends ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqVVG4FCq7w starting a bar fight]]''.
** Dedede has a LOT more friends than Kirby in the games. Kirby's only in-game friends outside of ''[[VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards Kirby 64]]'' and the latter two ''Dream Land'' games are all created by him somehow. Everybody else has tried to kill him at least once.
** Meta Knight squanders more than one opportunity to let Kirby know what's going on. Is he playing IdiotBall or does he have some ulterior motive, such as ensuring another rematch between the two of them? If he does, does Meta Knight really crave a rematch so badly that he's willing to risk an EldritchAbomination escaping into the world?
** Galacta Knight has had no information released about him besides being so strong that he was sealed away. Literally every piece of fandom conversation outside that ''one fact'' is an ACI.
* AntiClimaxBoss:
** Waddle Dee. In Revenge of the King, he is the last boss before King Dedede. He's [[ZeroEffortBoss laughably easy]]. It's the same Waddle Dee that appears in the Arena in ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'' [[VideoGameRemake Ultra.]]
** [[spoiler:Dark Nebula]] is laughably easy compared to the battle just before it. [[spoiler:02]] is also easier than [[ThatOneBoss Miracle Matter]].
** [[spoiler: Dark Crafter]] makes the above two bosses look difficult. It only has one, rather easy to dodge, attack and the strategy to defeat it is the same as '''[[WarmUpBoss Whispy Woods.]]'''
* BrokenBase:
** The series has a bit of a broken base concerning the quality of the games after ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3'' and ''VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards'', like whether an abundance of single-move Copy Abilities or a limited amount of multi-move abilites is the way to go ([[TakeAThirdOption or the "happy medium" in the GBA and DS games]]), and whether the games should stay fresh with new characters or bring back the old ones like Ribbon, Gooey, the Animal Friends, and Adeleine. There are also debates on [[Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa the anime version]], especially [[SubbingVersusDubbing whether the English or Japanese version is better]].
** There has been a debate over the different kinds of Kirby games ever since ''VideoGame/KirbySqueakSquad''. While not the the extent of the [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Zelda]] franchise's TheyChangedItNowItSucks[=/=]ItsTheSameSoItSucks, there are similarities at its core. Which Kirby experience is better? The Classic style platformers where Kirby absorbs enemies to gain their abilities, or the ones that innovate (the likes of VideoGame/KirbyCanvasCurse or Videogame/KirbysEpicYarn) where the gameplay is given an overhaul. Critics of the former feel the formula grows stale, whilst critics of the latter feel that it's too gimmicky. Of course quite a few fans like both and want to see what Nintendo comes out with next.
** The debate over Console vs. Handheld games, and whether or not Nintendo favors one group over the other.
** Should the series stay a sidescroller or should it have 3D platformer titles?
** Are Ado and Adeleine the same character or not?
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: When it comes to BossRush modes that offer abilities, many players will stick to only one ability throughout the entire run. Most of the time they'd stick with abilities that can deal heavy damage as quickly as possible such as Hammer, Plasma or Tornado, or abilities with great defensive options such as Stone, Leaf or Archer.
* CrazyAwesome:
** King Dedede. He's the [[AuthorityInNameOnly king of Dream Land,]] wears a pimp coat, and fights with [[DropTheHammer a hammer]]. Also? He is a blue [[EverythingsBetterWithPenguins penguin]] (though the blue part might be a bit mitigated by the fact that penguins are typically depicted as blue & white in Japanese media).
** Masked Dedede takes this UpToEleven. Case in point: [[spoiler:the fight takes place in ''an electrified cage.'']]
** [[VideoGame/KirbyTripleDeluxe Wait till you see]] him [[spoiler:wield an AX three times bigger than he is]].
* CultClassic: ''Air Ride'' has been getting more and more popular each year since its release thanks to its sandbox-like City Trial mode. Helps that it was the last ''Kirby'' game that ''Kirby'''s creator Creator/MasahiroSakurai worked on before leaving HAL Laboratory to start his own company.
* DesignatedVillain: Many games have Kirby attack King Dedede and his forces under the assumption that he's the villain, when in fact Dedede turns out to be trying to ''stop'' the real villain of the game.
* DracoInLeatherPants: Many Kirby fans think Zero is a lonely, sad being that just wants some friends - though this does have some basis in canon, as it's stated that Dark Matter can't feel positive emotions and wants to destroy the world out of jealousy. The awesome battle music probably helps (''especially'' 02's music.)
* EarWorm: Pick a song, ANY song from the games. Case in point: the Invincibility jingle. It doesn't help that the games have a habit of [[RecycledSoundtrack endlessly recycling/remixing music used from previous games]].
* EvenBetterSequel: The original Kirby game was a fairly standard side-scroller that was pretty enjoyable for what it was, but was laughably short and easy (although the latter is compensated by the unlockable Hard Mode--[[NintendoHard and it lives up to its name, all right]]) and didn't even allow you to copy abilities! ''Kirby's Adventure'' then came out on the NES and blew the original out of the water by offering more levels, the series-trademark copy abilities, and a save feature! ''Kirby's Dream Land 2'', while not quite as elaborate as ''Adventure'', at least brought these improvements down to a portable level, while also adding the Animal Friends to offer unique variations on ''Adventure''[='s=] pre-established gameplay and introducing the concept of multiple endings to the series.
* FandomBerserkButton:
** Go onto a forum and say "Meta-Knight" or "[=MetaKnight=]" is your favorite character. You will not hear the end of it. "His name is Meta Knight, damn it! Meta-Knight is the group of swordsmen and [=MetaKnight=] doesn't exist! RAHHHHH, IT MATTERS! [[NoTrueScotsman YOU'RE NOT A REAL FAN!"]]
** Same with calling King Dedede "[=King DeDeDe=]" or pronouncing his name "King Day Day Day" around English-speaking fans (as his name is intended to be pronounced "D.D.D.", with "day" being the Japanese pronunciation of "D" and "dee" being the English one).
** Paint Roller's name is Paint Roller. '''Not''' Skainter. It's supposed to be a clever {{pun}}. Besides, try saying "Skainter" out loud. It just ''hurts''.
*** Although deliberately provoking somebody by using Skainter would be painful trolling, so it kinda wraps back around in a meta sense.
** Don't call Kirby [[ViewerGenderConfusion a girl]] [[PinkMeansFeminine just because he's pink]]. If you're lucky, a fan will just politely correct you. Even in Japan with its GenderNeutralWriting practically none of the fanbase considers Kirby female; the divide is entirely between gender neutral and male.
** Misspelling the villain in ''VideoGame/KirbyTripleDeluxe'' as Daranza instead of Taranza is also a no-no as it's a BlindIdiotTranslation FanNickname. It was less bad before the official localization, though.
* FanficFuel: Kirby's PowerCopying ability technically gives him an unlimited array of potential powers. And with Kirby having abilities that range from martial arts and electricity to ringing bells and parasols, it's quite fun to imagine potential powers for the little guy. And what makes it even more fun is the possibility of them becoming [[AscendedFanon actual powers in an official Kirby game]].
%%* FandomHeresy: Do not admit ''VideoGame/KirbyAndTheAmazingMirror'' is your favorite Kirby game or state you liked it despite the flaws.
* {{Fanon}}:
** One Japanese guidebook for ''Kirby's Dream Land 2'' claimed Dark Matter was a TorturedMonster that attacked Popstar because it was jealous of all the "happiness" there. Just about every fan accepts this as official canon, [[BeamMeUpScotty but they always]] {{flanderiz|ation}}e [[BeamMeUpScotty it into applying to]] Zero/0[[superscript:2]] alone, despite Zero not being introduced until the sequel (The TearsOfBlood likely have something to do with it... and also the fact that Zero is Dark Matter's ''core'').
** Did Bandana Waddle Dee appear in ''Kirby 64'', minus the blue bandana? Some fans think so.
** Ado and Adeleine are two different characters, with Ado being male. Unless you think that "Ado" is merely how Kirby pronounces Adeleine's name (as the latter's name is pronounced "'''Ado'''rinu" in Japanese). The idea of Ado being male was eventually {{jossed}} in a 20th-anniversary booklet, which confirmed that Ado's a girl. Whether Ado and Adeleine are the same person, however...
** People really seem to like the idea that Meta Knight is like a [[ParentalSubstitute father-figure]] to Kirby, to the point where the Japanese have their own term for the whole headcanon[[note]]パパナイト, which literally translates to "Papa Knight"[[/note]].
* FountainOfExpies:
** Whispy Woods either appears as a boss directly in every game or has a stand-in. The lone exception is ''Squeak Squad'', where he only appears on the title screen.
** The first three {{Big Bad}}s of the series (not counting Dedede) are this for the rest of the franchise's {{Big Bad}}s: [[VideoGame/KirbysAdventure Nightmare]] started the trend of the TeleportSpam tactic that is popular with many {{Final Boss}}es, [[VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand2 Dark Matter]] started the trend of {{Final Boss}}es having an {{Oculothorax}} OneWingedAngel form and [[VideoGame/KirbySuperStar Marx]] started the trend of said {{Final Boss}}es having a large collection of flashy, colorful attacks (to the point of recycling, no less).
** A weird variation of this also happens in regards to the trend of BonusBoss "Soul" forms of {{Final Boss}}es. While [[spoiler: Marx]] might have been the one to start this with the DS remake of Super Star, Drawcia from ''VideoGame/KirbyCanvasCurse'' was the one that first used the "Soul" term to refer to an OneWingedAngel form, plus the fact that [[spoiler: Marx Soul]] himself recycles some of Drawcia's moves. Drawcia herself could be considered this as seen by the existence of [[VideoGame/KirbyTripleDeluxe Paintra]] and [[VideoGame/KirbyAndTheRainbowCurse Claycia]].
* GameBreaker:
** You can ''destroy'' The Arena (and later The [[NintendoHard True]] [[HarderThanHard Arena]]) with Hammer and Plasma, the former having Hammer Flip, which does one of the highest damages of a non one-time-use ability in the game, and the latter of which provides an extra shield when fully charged.
** If you master the quick charge trick, the aforementioned Plasma power from ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'' becomes the most broken power the series has ever seen. Due to this, it was slightly {{nerf}}ed in the DS version, requiring more charge-up time.
** There's also Tornado, which has the amazing ability to kill almost every boss in the series. In fact, every boss in ''Squeak Squad'' can be killed very easily with it, including the final boss. It's an even better choice for the final boss than the EleventhHourSuperpower! Cranked UpToEleven in ''VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand'', where stronger moves were made avaliable. You can annihilate [[spoiler:'''Magolor Soul''']] pretty easily with Tornado. Yep, an InfinityMinusOneSword in comparison to Super Abilities.
** Also Hi-Jump, at least in ''Kirby's Adventure'', which not only does high damage to bosses, but makes you invincible while doing so and sending you out of harm's way. Not always useful outside bosses, however.
** The Copy helper (TAC) in the original ''Kirby Super Star'' on the SNES. Normally, it allows the helper to copy abilities like Kirby himself. But if there's no power to copy (mostly on bosses), it just does massive damage! And it's spammable! [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWwdnFBohfE See for yourself]], especially 2:52. It completely heals every time you copy a power, and when it guards, you become immune to all damage as well.
** In ''Dream Land 2'', Coo + Parasol can rip apart everything ''including the angry Propeller Bombs''. The whole thing got a well deserved {{nerf}} in ''3''.
** Chu Chu's [[FlyingBroomstick Clean power]] trivializes any midair segment (short of those that require quick movement).
** Stone in every game it's in is BoringButPractical incarnate. Upon using it, you turn into a NighInvulnerable [[DishingOutDirt rock]]. It deals a lot of contact damage, and you can sustain your rock form indefinitely. You can turn even the hardest bosses into jokes if you utilize it well.
* HellIsThatNoise:
** Combining this with MostAnnoyingSound gives you [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thahQTUE7WU the final phase]] of Revenge Of Meta Knight.
** The music for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3kGiA3EGP4 Ripple Star's second level]]. The cute SugarBowl of the first level [[MoodWhiplash is quickly cut off]] when you reach the second and are welcomed with the ruined fairy castle and hear that damn ScareChord dirge.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfHah9s6BWE That... bloodcurling... SCREAM!]]
** Most bosses that have a vocal laugh can qualify as this, namely [[VideoGame/KirbyTripleDeluxe Queen Sectonia]] and [[VideoGame/KirbyPlanetRobobot President Haltmann]], both of whom laugh constantly in their boss fights. Also combined with MostAnnoyingSound. The latter is even worse in that [[spoiler: you can faintly hear his death cries as Star Dream Soul OS's core gets more and more damaged]].
* HilariousInHindsight:
** One look at [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-8db508yrE this commercial]] for ''Kirby's Adventure'' and suddenly the concept of ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvULlC9c7xg Kirby's Epic Yarn]]'' becomes all the more hilarious.
** Also, Marx's mouth laser attack. [[BreathWeapon Imma]] [[Anime/DragonBallZ Firin]] [[MemeticMutation Ma Lazah!]]
** Rick the Hamster. With the Stone ability, he can [[RickRoll roll]].
** "Mago" means [[spoiler:"wizard"]] in some languages, and "lor" means [[spoiler:"dirty"]] in others (and he ''does'' fit the name of [[spoiler: Dirty Wizard; his pause screen description in Extra Mode outright calls him "a liar and a wizard"]]). This would be a MeaningfulName if the two meanings came from the same language, but since they don't, it's just a funny coincidence.
* IdiotPlot: ''Squeak Squad'' features one of the silliest {{Excuse Plot}}s in franchise history -- Kirby's trying to get his cake back. Once he confuses the chest with his cake in it for the one Meta Knight is guarding, does Meta Knight sit Kirby down and explain things? No! He makes off with it, and Kirby starts chasing after ''him''! Five minutes of rational conversation would've completely shut down the last section of the game.
* ItsEasySoItSucks: The games may be easy, but this is generally [[AvertedTrope averted]] - they were actually designed to be very easy (as the first game was developed at a time when Nintendo had a [[NintendoHard trope-naming reputation]] for publishing difficult titles) yet nobody seems to have any problem. This becomes quite weird when you hear this trope being invoked elsewhere, since how many other games allow you to ''fly over most of the stage'' without even having to find a power-up?
* ItWasHisSled: Meta Knight's identity [[spoiler:as another member of Kirby's race]] is technically a spoiler on the grounds that you don't know anything about him until his defeat. The fandom's been talking about it for years, so never mind about that.
* LoveItOrHateIt: You'll either love the slower paced gameplay, Gooey, [[PowerUpMount Animal Friends]] and scribbly graphics of ''Dream Land 3'' or hate it for just the same reasons. The most hardcore of the fanbase generally like it, though.
* MagnificentBastard:
** Without a doubt, Meta Knight. In fact, even leaning more towards being a GuileHero in ''Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa''.
** [[spoiler:Marx, who arranged for the sun and moon to fight and used Kirby to summon Nova so he could wish to take over Popstar.]]
** [[spoiler:Yin-Yarn lands himself right in this spot since he demonstrates his plan to take over Dream Land by having his fake Waddle Dees capture the real ones and then capturing and brainwashing Dedede and Meta Knight and sending them to Patch Land to fight Kirby under his control so he can have Dream Land all to himself. And, unlike most other villains, Yin-Yarn actually succeeds in taking over Dream Land.]]
** [[spoiler:Magolor, you magnificent bastard, we read your BOOK!]]
** [[spoiler:And now we have our newest one; Queen Sectonia, who saw through the Floralia residents' plan to bring the hero of Dream Land to their rescue and sent Taranza to kidnap him in order to keep him from interfering with her gambit to rule Popstar as its goddess, even though she didn't count on him kidnapping Dedede instead of Kirby like she wanted him to.]]
* MemeticBadass:
** During the BossRush in ''Super Star'', you will have to fight a Waddle Dee with five times the health of a normal Waddle Dee. It's still a CurbStompBattle ZeroEffortBoss (he doesn't move, and you can still [[OneHitKill inhale him.]]) [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5Uu0dyH9CU A video]] on the internet portrayed him as an unstoppable god of destruction (via a player who thought it would be hilarious) and the fandom's pumped him up ever since.
** In case anyone wants to argue, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0sZ7a1c_5A here]] is Waddle Dee proving his point. '''Contains spoilers!'''
** Kirby himself is this. There are Nintendo fans who firmly believe the pink puff's badassery is only rivaled by [[VideoGame/FZero Captain Falcon]]. The fact that ''Planet Robobot'' described him as having infinite power (which would technically make him '''god-like''') and the fact that Mass Attack concludes with Kirby killing a literal Death God has only amplified this. The Smash Bros community usually hype Kirby and Shulk as the two strongest characters due to both of them canonically killing '''gods''' in their home series.
** King Dedede. He's CrazyAwesome incarnate, and only gets crazier with every new game. To quote a tip from ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros for Wii U/3DS'', Dedede doesn't need to copy abilities like Kirby because he "is already perfect".
** Meta Knight, from his introduction, has been seen as really, really kickass. Two things have solidified it: him summoning [[WorldsBestWarrior Galacta Knight]] [[DareToBeBadass just to prove that he can beat him]], and his complete GameBreaker status in ''Super Smash Bros. Brawl''.
* MemeticMutation:
** Gourmet Race has become one of the most remixed songs on [=YouTube=]. Sand Canyon and Candy Mountain[=/=]Skyhigh are hot on its tail. {{Stupid Statement Dance Mix}}es of ''Manga/LuckyStar'' voice clips to the tune of various ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'' tracks are also quite popular.
** One rather famous remix is a mashup between Gourmet Race and Music/SnoopDogg's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXzg0D-cKds "Drop It Like It's Hot"]], after the creator found that the two sync up perfectly.
** There was also a [=YouTube=] fad involving Dedede [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94nJEMQmeWY screaming random things]] after getting beaten at the end of Spring Breeze.
** '''INVINCIBLE CANDY!''' (A running gag on Something Awful LetsPlay of any Kirby game, second only to...)
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yiZFUT-zMk&list=PLD741ACE7754011C6&index=32&feature=plpp_video DELICIOUS!]] (Whenever any food item is eaten, but especially Maximum Tomatoes.)
** The "Kirby ASCII Dance": (> ")> <(" <) (^ ")^ (v ")v
** ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn'' brings us Kirby's arrival in Patch Land and his observation that the grass feels like... pants.
** Rick's Stone ability in ''Dream Land 2'' and ''Dream Land 3'' has been dubbed the "Rickroll".
** The title screen music of ''VideoGame/KirbysPinballLand'' has become synonymous with a well-known copypasta where an [[ImageBoard Anon]] walked in on his parents having sex while the music was playing on his Gameboy.
** "[[http://triple-q.deviantart.com/art/Kirby-is-shaped-like-a-friend-485179687 Kirby is shaped like a friend]]". This phrase originated from an online chat which was then made into an adorable piece of fanart.
* {{Moe}}: Kirby, obviously. His baby-like voice in the anime also helps.
* NeverLiveItDown:
** In ''Kirby Squeak Squad'', the IdiotPlot leads Kirby to go on a quest (read: rampage) for his stolen piece of cake. In every other platform game, his goals are more noble, but some fans hang on to this one instance and insist Kirby is a SociopathicHero.
** Kirby also suffers a reputation for NiceJobBreakingItHero when he's actually a victim of PoorCommunicationKills, because nobody tells him what's going on until it's far too late to do anything about it
* PeripheryDemographic: Though the games are and remain mostly geared for people beginning to play video games, a good chunk of the fanbase are experienced gamers who grew up playing them and who gleefully return to each new installment, no matter how short or easy it is. It helps that the games tend to be well made, and make up for the easiness by putting the difficulty into OneHundredPercentCompletion.
* SacredCow: While ''Kirby'' may not be as popular as other Nintendo franchises, it has an extremely good reputation, and it's rare to find a Nintendo fan that outright hates the games. In recent years, the opinion that Kirby has yet to have a "bad" game is common, which is a rarity among Nintendo series.
* ScrappyMechanic: Attacks that knock the ability out of you. It's been a mainstay for most games and can lead to a pretty bad cycle of getting hit over and over trying to recover the star, only for it to get knocked back out. Made worse by the fact that there's never actually any indication as to what will or will not, as even basic enemies can do it with contact damage occasionally. How often Kirby loses his ability from attacks varies by game. Recent games have many different enemy and boss attacks programmed to always knock out Kirby's ability, and in ''VideoGame/KirbysAdventure'', ''[[VideoGame/KirbyAndTheAmazingMirror Amazing Mirror]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/KirbySqueakSquad Squeak Squad]]'', ''every'' means of taking damage will make Kirby drop his ability. This can get truly aggravating when going for the fastest possible times in BossRush modes as you can't afford to get hit too much or you'll waste time.
* {{Squick}}:
** In ''Super Star'' (and a few other games with co-op) A player can share the effects of a recently consumed food item by walking up to their ally at which point the two get face to face for a second. There's really no other way to interpret this animation as anything but player 1 spitting up what they had just eaten into player 2's mouth...
** Or they share the health gain with [[ThePowerOfLove a kiss]]. Since healing items are food, Kirby's giving the chewed up remains to his sidekick. Meta Knight can do it to, through his mask. Somehow.
** If ''Kirby Super Star'''s manga adaptation is any indication, the creators are ''fully aware of this''.
* SurpriseDifficulty:
** The Arena and The True Arena in any game it appears.
** Some of the more experimental games like ''Mass Attack'' and ''Rainbow Curse'' can become this due to the unusual control scheme.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: Whether intentional or coincidental, the Kirby series has some pretty interesting motif similarities to other songs in them.
** In ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'' the Revenge of Meta Knight ending theme bears similarities to The Animals' rendition of "House of the Rising Sun".
** The game over screen in ''Kirby Super Star'' has a similar tune to the chorus of Queen's "You're My Best Friend".
** Last but not least is the Kirby Dance theme which sounds like a part of "[[Disney/AliceInWonderland The Walrus and the Carpenter]]".
* TastesLikeDiabetes: The entire series, until MoodWhiplash kicks in and you fight the [[VileVillainSaccharineShow final]] [[EldritchAbomination boss.]]
* ViewerGenderConfusion:
** Kirby's gender is actually a mystery in the Japanese games, and the original developers refuse to designate an official gender. Averted in most translations since gender-neutral pronouns don't always work out (especially in English, which usually defaults to the masculine form).
** Ado from ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3'' is confirmed female, but for the longest time, fans considered her male. This is largely in part to differentiate her from [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Adeleine]].
* VindicatedByHistory:
** ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand3'' was one due to coming after the ToughActToFollow ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'', and undoing many of the new mechanics from that game, such as multi-attack abilities, minigames, and a more elaborate BossRush. Instead, the slow-paced gameplay and Animal Friends from ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand2'' made a comeback. This was because the games were made by different development teams. It also was overlooked due to the release of the UsefulNotes/Nintendo64, and the "coloring book" art style. Now, it's seen as much of a classic as that game, especially due to it improving the Kirby series' MinimalistCast with Gooey and the Animal Friends, and being surprisingly DarkerAndEdgier to most games in the series.
** Similarly, ''VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards'' was disliked for many of the same reasons. Now, it's enjoyed for giving Kirby an ImpliedLoveInterest, and, once again, being SurpriseCreepy. However, the Kirby series switched back to ''Adventure''-style, then back to ''Super Star''-style due to the initial poor reception of these two games. Many fans are eager to see another game like them.
** ''VideoGame/KirbyAirRide'' met a lukewarm reception [[OvershadowedByAwesome due to being sandwiched between]] ''VideoGame/FZero GX'' and ''[[VideoGame/MarioKart Mario Kart: Double Dash!!]]'' Nowadays, it is considered a CultClassic and one of the highlights of the UsefulNotes/NintendoGameCube library, particularly for the City Trial mode. In fact, the Smash Run mode in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' for 3DS was directly stated by Sakurai to be a SpiritualSuccessor to said mode.
