YMMV / Kevin In The Morning

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Sam the Armenian Comedian. Either you think his hilarious ineptitude makes him So Bad He's Good, or you think he's So Bad He's Horrible.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Many of the things the show used to do in its' earlier days (various stunts, Psycho Mike's funny if very edgy song parodies, etc.) eventually fell by the wayside under pressure from KROQ's corporate lawyers, particularly when the station was owned by CBS. Even in the case of Mike's song parodies that would be legally covered by fair use, the show would inevitably run afoul of the attorneys who would decide the songs weren't worth the potential trouble from the artists or listener complaints. In an episode of The B-Team podcast, Lightning remarked that the intrusion of lawyers for record labels and music publishers is what complicated the production of, and ultimately killed, the yearly Christmas charity albums.
  • Screwed by the Network: When CBS sold its' radio assets (including KROQ) to Entercom in 2017, there was hope that the new corporate owners would start to invest back in the station and its' staff, based on remarks made by the new management. However, the new management opted not to renew Ralph Garman's contract in 2017, ending his nineteen year association with the show unexpectedly. Then, when the COVID-19 lockdown began in March 2020, station management made the decision to fire the entire remaining staff without notice. Only Kevin was allowed to come on-air briefly to explain the situation, bringing the 30-year-old show to a sudden and ignominious end. KROQ briefly endured a good deal of negative publicity in the local media, but the damage had already been done.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Besides Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel, the show helped launch the career of Mark Jonathan henDavis, better known as Richard Cheese.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Pretty much anytime there's a significant cast change on the show, most recently with the departure of Ralph Garman at the end of November 2017, fans will tend to respond negatively to the change. This was especially strong with the sudden firing of Lisa May in 2015, who had been with the show longer than anyone else apart from Kevin and Bean themselves.
