Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Despite the impressive period detail and the amazing jazz score, it's not the easiest film to get into, because none of the main characters are all that likable, since they're either criminals or snobs. The last act fixes this a bit with some character development. We learn more about Blondie, and see that her over-the-top "tough-talkin' dame" persona is a desperate In-Universe affectation (and not just Jennifer Jason Leigh hamming it up), Carolyn stops being a passive victim, and Johnny O'Hara shows some humanity as he pleads to Seldom Seen for his life.
