* TookTheBadFilmSeriously: Neither Creator/MichaelShannon nor Creator/MartonCsokas act like they were aware there was a talking, rapping kangaroo in the movie. Given how said addition was seemingly made well after their scenes were filmed, they probably legitimately weren't.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: Despite what the trailers and its far more kid-friendly animated sequel imply, it's not a family comedy with a talking kangaroo. It's pretty adult and only barely short of PG-13. That it was originally intended and written to be a far more mature mob comedy film that was reworked into being a family-oriented film with a TakingAnimal--kind of--at the center, it definitely gives context to the dissonance in who the film's actually intended for certainly.

Even if Charlie and Louis didn't encounter the kangaroo, [[FridgeLogic there are a hundred things that could've gone wrong]] (like Charlie and Louis catching onto his plan and disappearing with the money, ''an idea they actually entertain in the movie'')]].

* BileFascination: The creept nature of the titular kangaroo is sure to evoke this for some people; The fact that it was actually a run of the mill R-rated gangster buddy comedy hastily edited into a kid-friendly animal comedy is almost certain to do the same for those who want to see just how this panned out in the final product.

* AccidentalNightmareFuel: The UncannyValley CGI kangaroos chanting "Chicken blood!" at the end of the dream sequence is understandably unnerving to some people.

On one hand, it tries to appeal to kids by advertising itself as a lighthearted kid's comedy about a talking kangaroo ([[NeverTrustATrailer who neither speaks, except for in one hallucination sequence, or has that much screen-time]]), but on the other hand, it also tries to be an adult-mafia comedy with plenty of dark humor and sexual innuendo that feels too inappropriate to be in what is allegedly supposed to be a movie for kids (not helping matters is the fact that the movie was supposed to be rated R originally). Children will be put off by the adult humor, mafia film elements, and especially by the fact that there is no talking kangaroo in the movie, despite what the trailers, posters and DVD cover promised, while adults will also be put off by the incredibly juvenile, unsophisticated nature of the film and that it's advertised as a TalkingAnimal kid's movie. The end result is a movie that really doesn't know what it wants to be, leaving the audience (both adults and kids) confused as to which demographic it's meant to appeal to.
