* AngstWhatAngst: WordOfGod says that Elyon is indeed suffering from PTSD or some related condition as a result of her brotherís betrayal.
* EvilIsSexy: Jade, who has never been much into admiring boys, thinks that Phobos would look handsome in the eyes of many girls in her school.
* Foil: Jade and Elyon to each other in more than one way.
** Their elements are shadow and light, respectively. The Light of Meridian's power rivals the power of the Heart of Kandrakar. And according to ancient legends, this can also be the case with shadow magic.
** They also contrast each other in the way they handle their powers. At the moment, Jade has far less raw magical power, but uses creatively those she currently has. Elyon has a lot of raw magical power, but only little control over them. However, Elyon is on the way of subverting her status with the lessons she's having from the Oracle. And if N'ghala's vision is of any indication, Jade's status will also be subverted by some sort of a power source.
** Elyon is Meridian's ruler by birthright. According to Yua, Jade will become a queen through thrive and trial.
** Elyon was prophecied to end her brother's tyrannical rule and claim her rightful throne. Jade is apparently prophecied to end Kandrakar's influence and spread darkness across the Known Worlds.
** Elyon is worshipped by most of Meridian's population and Jade is feared/hated by most of them.
** Elyon is a NaiveEverygirl and Jade is a cunning GuileHeroine.
** They could also be a TomboyAndGirlyGirl pair. Unlike girls of her age, Jade has a thirst for adventures and eagerness to prove herself. She also has never been much into admiring boys, finding it to be too stupid and girly. Elyon laments the loss of princess excitement of being a queen (a masked ball, Prince Charming, a castle on a cloud...).
* GrayingMorality: The Knights of Vengeance, the (former) rebellion and Kandrakar (with it having Althair and the ruthlessness of N'ghala's reign) seem to be getting this treatment.
* HannibalHasAPoint: Phobos may not be entirely wrong about the argument of his HannibalLecture: the rebels won ultimately with the help of the Guardians and Elyon.
* MoralEventHorizon: If Kur having shapeshifters burned at the stake isn't a clear crossing of it, doing the same to (by then 5 years old) Miranda's (human) parents and forcing her to watch does the trick.
* RootingForTheEmpire: Many fans of the story have become more sympathetic towards the Knights of Vengeance than the Guardians or rebels. This must have been due to Jade's presence and the heroes' actions.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: Kur's rabid mistrust and hate of the Guards is understandable, when one considers that they were enemies for years, and they only switched sides during the FinalBattle with Phobos.
* VillainHasAPoint: Nerissa thinks that Elyon is too naÔve to keep Meridian from being ruined in half the time of her brother's rule. This argument has a merit of truth, given Caleb's BlackAndWhiteMorality viewpoint that borders on BlackAndWhiteInsanity. And unfortunately, most of the rebels seem to share his views. There's also the issue with Kur and his own views.
