!!The [[Music/{{Journey}} band]]:

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", a song that is much darker than the band's more famous output, and awesome because of it.
** A lot of their Arnel Pineda Era output is pretty awesome as well. "Change for the Better", "Faith in the Heartland", "Tantra", "Human Feel", "Someone", the list goes on...
* BeamMeUpScotty: Perry never said "I never felt part of the band". He really said “All these years, it’s funny—I never really felt part of it.” Even then, the line was actually [[QuoteMine taken out of context]] by Creator/{{VH1}}. What [[http://steveperryonline.net/index.php/2011/01/11/a-qa-with-steve-perry/ he really said]] was that he felt he wasn't part of the band ''at the time'' (he was talking about his early years with Journey).
* BrokenBase:
** Fans of the better-known Perry-led pop era vs. fans of the earlier jazzy progressive era.
** Fans of the Perry-led era vs. fans of the Steve-Augeri/Arnel-Pineda eras. Flamewars and overheated discussions between the various camps still happen on fan boards to this day. [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgement And that's all we'll say on that.]]
** Their 1986 album ''Raised on Radio''. Is it the band's best, a great follow up to ''Frontiers'', a worthy addition to their discography, or is it an awful glorified Steve Perry solo album?
* ColbertBump: The use of "Don't Stop Believing" in the final scene of ''Series/TheSopranos'' instantly made the band a trendy discussion topic again. And then it happened again in the pilot of ''Series/{{Glee}}'', which boosted the song to the number one [=iTunes=] download.
* DarkerAndEdgier:
** The Frontiers album. All the albums before it had been either progressive-rock or [[TheSeventies 1970s-style]] blues-oriented AOR, with the album immediately-preceding it, ''Escape'', being full of feel-good inspirational rock. Frontiers dove into harder-edged rock and angry lyrics about break-ups and future-shock, with synthesizers and angry guitar replacing the melodic rock of its predecessors.
** "One More" from the Trial By Fire album. The track is harsher in vocals and sound, with doomsday-inspired lyrics, and sounds out of place among the softer songs of the rest of the album.
* EarWorm: Plenty of them.
** "Just a small town girl..."
** "Any way you want it / That's the way you need it / Any way you want it!"
** "Circus lights / Under the big top worrrrllllld"
** "So now I cooooome to yoooooou / With oooooopen arrrrrrms"
** "When the lights... go down in the city"
* EndingFatigue: "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'". The song repeats the same "Na na na" chorus over. And over. And ''over''. Good God, '''end''' it already.
* EpicRiff: The keyboard riffs for "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Separate Ways".
* FaceOfTheBand: Steve Perry, who was hired because the record company felt that Gregg Rolie wasn't distinctive enough and the band needed a clear front-man. Even after Perry left the band, he is still the member who is most associated with the band.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: The band is currently far more popular in Europe than in the US, to the point that their 2011 tour only has 3 US dates, with all the rest being in Europe. This is a relatively new development. In the eighties, Journey toured almost exclusively in USA and Japan. The European AOR fans preferred Music/{{Toto}} (still do, really).
* InternetBackdraft: Any of the below will embroil you in instant arguments and flames on the various fan boards.
** Go ahead. [[SchmuckBait Mention Steve Augeri on any Steve Perry fan-group or YouTube vid.]] Or Arnel Pineda.
** ...or the Filipinos being rabid and spamming "Proud to be Pinoy (slang for Filipino)" comments.
** Or any of the ''Series/{{Glee}}'' covers of the Steve Perry-era songs.
** Or mention that Journey had three albums before Steve Perry. Or anything ''after'' Steve Perry, for that matter.
* MemeticMutation: It is obligatory that most covers of "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" will include a shot-by-shot copy of its NarmCharm music video.
* MisattributedSong: Some people confuse this band with Music/{{Foreigner}} and misattribute songs like "Jukebox Hero" and "I Want to Know What Love Is" to this band. Ditto Music/{{Survivor}}'s [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e98UOB0etdo "Can't Hold Back"]], to the point that Survivor's lead singer was actively imitating Steve Perry.
* NarmCharm: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LatorN4P9aA The video for Separate Ways,]] with Steve Perry's exaggerated facial expressions, the band playing invisible instruments, and the band's constant angry posing, preening, and posturing. Likely intentional, though drummer Steve Smith looks ready to crack up laughing in parts (and he is also wearing a foosball shirt, which rocks).
* NeverLiveItDown: Although Jonathan Cain was reportedly upset when ''WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButthead'' tore into the much-derided [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LatorN4P9aA "Separate Ways"]] video (a staple of the early years of Creator/{{MTV}}), he has since admitted to being embarrassed by it. In ''I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution'', he said, "I'm at a loss to explain that video. I will never live down those air keyboards. No matter what else I've done in my career, sooner or later people find a way to ask me about the 'Separate Ways' video." (However, ''WebVideo/TheMusicVideoShow'' [[http://youtu.be/HmIUH-MV048 explains]] that the video is SoOkayItsAverage.)
* SignatureSong: "Don't Stop Believin'", without a doubt. It's the one song the band always plays in concert & is a guaranteed singalong, the one song ''everyone'' recognizes as Journey, and gets the most airplay out of the band's catalog.
* TheWoobie: Steve Perry. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFtTOhOqWy0 Behind The Music]] is the best example of it, and his FanDumb responds accordingly.
* {{Wangst}}: Steve Perry's "I never felt part of the band" line comes off as this. At least until it was revealed that it was taken out of context (see BeamMeUpScotty).

!!The [[VideoGame/{{Journey}} video game]]:

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Yes, it's good enough to stand on the same page as the band Journey. It plays on a recurring motif that can be heard in its simplest form in "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLfj3pAlrs4 Nascence]]", the first song, and at its most awe-inspiring in "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypNgvc6c6Cc Apotheosis]]", the very last song.
** While all the music you hear throughout is amazing, the ending credits song "I Was Born For This" just tops them all. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_wkJ377LzU You can listen to it here]].
** Now has the honour of being the very first videogame soundtrack ''ever'' [[http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/12/06/journeys-soundtrack-nominated-for-a-grammy to be nominated for a Grammy Award]]! And not just some small obscure award either, [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome it got nominated for Best Score]], placing Austin Wintory amongst heavyweights like Music/JohnWilliams, Music/HansZimmer, Music/HowardShore and [[Music/NineInchNails Trent Reznor]]. Not to mention that to be recognized alongside the former [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments was also a lifelong dream of Wintory's]].
* [[Awesome/VideoGameLevels Awesome Video Game Levels]]: The Apotheosis stage and the level with the sandsurfing are the most likely to be brought up in conversation on forums, for nothing but the sheer levels of SceneryPorn and HolyShitQuotient they contain.
* BreatherLevel: The Temple is a perfectly safe location wedged in-between two patrolled by the War Machines. Not to mention that it is literally overflowing with energy.
* CatharsisFactor: The makers of the game specifically said that they set themselves the challenge of crafting a game that was capable of generating catharsis.
* GoddamnedBats: The flying war machines. They can knock you miles away when you're trying to go somewhere else.
* HypeBacklash: Its winning of several major game of the year awards has not been met with blanket enthusiasm. Many commenters are accusing the writers of pandering to gaming hipsters and bringing up the ItsShortSoItSucks arguments.
* ItsShortSoItSucks: Costs $15 and you will most likely finish it in one sitting, but [[HolyShitQuotient what]] [[SceneryPorn a]] [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments sitting]] that is.
* NightmareFuel: For a game that up until that point is nothing but pleasant, [[spoiler:the war machines]] making their first appearance by ''[[JumpScare bursting out of the sand completely without any warning]]'' is responsible for ''quite'' a few pairs of [[BringMyBrownPants soiled pants]]. And the subsequent stealth-sections are almost ''worse''. It's even ''worse'' because their eyes look like the little symbols that make your scarf longer from a distance, and if you run towards them and don't realize what they are until it's too late there's no time for you to get away.
** It can also be upsetting when you have a companion that is spotted by the [[spoiler:war machines]], because once they find your friend, the only thing you can do is watch in horror as they are attacked. That's right, you have ''no way'' to help your friend.
