YMMV / John Foxx

Go To

  • First Installment Wins: While Foxx's solo career has been lauded and he had a handful of minor hits in the UK, his first solo album Metamatic gets the lion share of praise in retrospect, being a pivotal and influential album in the realm of early, cold and detached Synth-Pop and Electronic Music. When he returned to music in 1997 after a six year break, it served as the blueprint for much of his non-ambient music going forward, I.E.: albums with Louis Gordon and with The Maths, and he named his record label Metamatic Records after it.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: His 1980 song "Touch and Go" shares its core synth and bass melodies with his former band's song "Mr. X", released the same year. Neither artists credit the other in their versions, so it's unclear how accidental the similarities are. It's worth noting that "Touch And Go" (as well as "He's A Liquid") made their debut on the final Ultravox tour with Foxx in 1979. Warren Cann would say in an interview about Foxx not crediting them on "Touch & Go", and as Vienna was released several months after Metamatic, it's possible that Ultravox not crediting him on "Mr. X" was a Take That!.
