Merger of tropes

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: There's a joke about inverted SpySpeak; John says things like "Tomorrow we kill the president" as a code word for "pick me up a pack of smokes on the way home". This book came out long, long before the NSA PRISM scandal broke.

Uncanny Valley is IUEO now and the subjective version has been split; cleaning up misuse and ZCE in the process

* UncannyValley: The people in Korrok's world wear creepy masks and many of them go naked under the impression that it will make David and John feel more comfortable.

* Lots of GayMoment, GayBravado, and HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday between John and Dave, it seems to me.

** The book makes liberal use of the words "retard" and "retarded," something that's fairly cringe-worthy as of the end of TheNewTens, as well as less generous but still glaring use of "Fag".
** A number of the pop-culture references have not aged well, notably references to Music/LimpBizkit and Creator/JenniferLopez fall rather flat.
** John smokes a cigarette during breakfast at Denny’s, at the time the book was written (mid 2000s) smoking sections were on the decline, by the time it was published, indoor smoking at restaurants was illegal in most states.

*CompleteMonster: The [[AIIsACrapshoot evil bio-computer Korrok]] is a sadist with the personality of a [[PsychopathicManchild wicked teenager]]. Korrok runs his world as a [[EvilOverlord brutal dictatorship]], with people tortured endlessly for fun as Korrok routinely devours the populations of worlds and holds them in torment, having people fed to him just [[ForTheEvulz for the enjoyment of the sacrifice]]. Korrok attempts to take over other universes and exterminate or enslave the populations, utilizing [[PuppeteerParasite parasites infecting people]] to painfully spread them across his target worlds.

* FriendlyFandoms: With ''WebComic/{{Homestuck}}'' of all things. Though not all that surprising when you consider the two actually have very similar sense of humor, and a surprising amount of Lovecraftian influence. Also, the main characters are a pair of best friends named John and Dave.

* CrazyAwesome: John. How else can you describe a man who racks up a probably the highest bodycount of monsters using nothing but a [[ChairmanOfTheBrawl folding chair]], and makes a chair pun with every kill? Or when trying to get his friend's car back, he chooses to try to piss on the driver to get him to stop.

* {{Moe}}:
** Amy, who John notes is one of those girls who invoke that sort of thing from their appearance. [[invoked]]
** Shelly Morris from the prologue is also described in a way that paints her as this. [[spoiler:It probably goes away when she turns into snakes.]]

Unfortunate Implications require citations.

* UnfortunateImplications: Dave is somehow reminded of Morgan Freeman by the cop interrogating him, despite acknowledging that he looks nothing like Freeman. The distinct impression is that it's because he's black.
** For that matter, he has a short phone conversation with Arnie, whom he pictures as white based on his voice. This causes the spirits that [[spoiler: kill Arnie to replace him with a copy that looks close to what Dave pictured but has Arnie's memories.]] Arnie himself is black, but must not have sounded like the black stereotype, meaning that Dave probably thinks all black people talk alike.
** Later, he voices support for the Columbine Massacre due to the horrific bullying he himself endured. Which is rather a CriticalResearchFailure, as Harris and Klebold's victims mostly had nothing to do with their bullying. It is, however, a ''very'' common myth, and it's the cause of the 'loners are school shooters waiting to happen' idea, so it's an understandable mistake.
