• Fanon Discontinuity: Most fans tend to ignore this film due to how pointless they find it and the fact they waited so long for it only to be disappointed.
• Overshadowed by Controversy: Even after so many years had passed since his probation ended and the previous two films were released with little controversy, this film had a hard time finding a distributor due to a boycott from detractors who wanted to stop the film from being released due to creator Victor Salva's history as a sex offender.
• Sequelitis: This film received far worse reviews than the other films. This was largely because of the lack of a reveal of the Creeper's origins as the advertising promised as well as the fact that it being set between the first two films means that it doesn't pick up on anything, making it pointless. The 14-year gap between films and the unfulfilled promise that the Creeper's origin would finally be revealed left many angry about waiting so long for nothing.
• Signature Scene: Many consider the epilogue where Trish Jenner appears and swears to take the Creeper down once and for all the only highlight of the film.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The film has the characters learn the Creeper's origins, something audiences have wondered about for years, but the characters never tell the audience. Many fans were disappointed as the film was advertised as finally revealing his origins. The comic book thankfully reveals quite a lot about his backstory, though it's yet to be confirmed canon officially.
• WTH, Costuming Department?: The Creeper wears a plain red shirt in this film instead of his more frightening and iconic trench coat from the first two films.
