• Alternate Character Interpretation: After Jane comes back from Lantern Hill for the first time, Grandmother goes to a great deal of trouble to buy her gifts and offer her nice things—an expensive cat, a full bedroom makeover, the offer of a trip to Europe—the same way she's responsible for Robin's fancy wardrobe. Is Grandmother trying to bribe Jane to stay so that Robin won't be miserable, or does she—deep down, in her own twisted, possessive way—care for Jane as well?
