• Award Snub:
  • The show and its actors, especially Guy Pearce were not awarded for their performances.
• Designated Hero: Depending on your view, it can be hard to root for Jack and his buddies when they lie, cheat, steal and sometimes eavesdrop and pick fights^note They only fight the bad guys though. at certain times. Though they only do this if they feel that the police aren't heading for the strongest leads or if there's the problem of an Obstructive Bureaucrat.
• Ensemble Dark Horse:
  • Brendan.
  • Harry and his absolute love of horse racing.
  • The older men at the bar, knows as The Fitzroy Youth Club.
• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • Jack begins to fall in love with Sarah, moving on from his past loves, only to watch her die in front of him.
  • Jack’s father passing away when he was a child mirrors Guy’s exact situation with his own dad. Certain lines about Jack not knowing certain aspects of who his father was was exactly what Guy felt growing up.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • In season 2, Jack shuts down Linda’s suggestion for a child, as “I’m a bit old to be having a kid at my age.” At the time, Guy Pearce had a 2-year-old son.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • Jack fucking Irish
  • When Fitzroy are either doing well or poorly in the footy, it’s common to think of what the boys from the Youth Club would think.
• The Woobie:
  • Jack. His wife was shot and killed by a disgruntled ex-client, his dad passed away when he was a child, he’s seen multiple people being killed, and has almost been murdered himself.
