  • Difficulty Spike:
    • The first two zones, Pervomay Route and Bolotky Village, are relatively easy, where the worst you can encounter are the occasional military mimics with assault rifles. Once you reach Popeda Factory, the enemy density goes way up and the game introduces armored enemies, which require armor piercing ammo to effectively neutralize. It is not a coincidence that body armor and AP ammo unlock at the same time as missions to Popeda factory start to appear.
    • As the player's security level increases and the player gains access to more powerful weapons, the missions will spawn appropriately more powerful enemies even in areas which normally don't host them. It's entirely possible for a sample container near Bolotky Village to be guarded by three Sliders and a host of armored Mimics and Fragments.
  • Goddamned Bats: Spawns. Small spider like creatures that like to jump straight at player, move fast and are hard to hit. They are also very common across the Zone.
  • Paranoia Fuel:
    • One of the logs player can find considers the possibility that the zone has expanded to cover Vanno, the main UNPSC facility. They note that there is nobody there, trains never arrive or leave, and yet someone keeps issuing new missions and gear, an echo of real events... much everything else in the zone
    • On a greater level, the zone itself is devoid of any life other than the creatures spawned by the zone. Nobody knows why the Pechorsk Event happened or what it means. Many anomalies do not have a visible component until you have already walked into them and many places have ambient sounds of grumbling buildings and distant screeching.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: Story is less there to be enjoyed, and more as an excuse to go into the Zone. Players can easily complete the game without ever truly understanding what they are doing and why.
  • Spiritual Successor: To S.T.A.L.K.E.R., being essentially STALKER but in VR.
