YMMV / Internment

Go To

  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Jake's true allegiance and mission not lining up with the Exclusion Authority is pretty apparent from his very first interaction with Layla on the train...
  • Critical Dissonance: Critical publications were quick to heap praise on the book with the rights to a movie being snatched up before release, but popular reviews were more lukewarm. Most popular criticism came down to the protagonist Layla and her sudden ability to lead a revolutionary movement inside a prison camp with neither skills nor training.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Layla and family are released from Mobius, but they're going back to the same nation that was perfectly happy to lock them up in the first place- and there's no guarantee that their fellow citizens won't do worse than lock them up this time.
  • Writer Cop Out: The story builds itself into a climax of the Director losing his position in a military coup, Layla's "interrogation" being leaked to the public before the Attorney General can bury it, and a full blown constitutional crisis in the works as the reality of a government concentration camp becomes public knowledge. One would think the story would continue to a part two, exploring the fallout of these actions and Layla dealing with the new reality of an America that was willing to intern all Muslim citizens in the first place. Instead, the book ends with Layla walking out of the camp and wondering what will happen next.
