- Moral Event Horizon:
- Professor Squires arguably crosses it with his response upon being told that he drove Simon to suicide: smugly correcting Nina's grammar rather than showing remorse. If not then, then approximately a minute later when he seriously contemplates raping her after immobilising her with pufferfish poison, only refraining because he'd get caught.
- Dr. Tyler crosses it when he reveals that there is no antidote for pufferfish poison and he's just tricked Squires into murdering Nina, then forces him to eat strips of flesh from her buttocks before informing him that Simon and Nina were his children and he's been tricked into killing and eating his daughter.
- Squick: Professor Squires being forced to eat the flesh from Nina's buttocks.
- What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: The line "RIP N.H.S.", meaning Nigel Hector Squires, was taken by many to be an attack on the Conservative government of the time and its underfunding of the National Health Service, which both Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith denied was intentional.
