• Nightmare Fuel:
  • The Memory Card arc. Everyone in Rin's school gets their negative memories wiped, turning in smiling empty husks. Then they ALL turn against Rin for the crime of not being happy, the school nurse flat out attacks him and they almost mob him until he gets a hold of the card.
  • It's very unsettling to see Father Fujimoto and the True Cross Monastery so willing to kill a pregnant woman and her unborn children, when they are very loving and affectionate at present.
• The Woobie: The story has many examples.
  • Poor Rin is isolated: the teachers have no faith in him, the students either ostracize him or bully him and everyone at home is too busy or trying to keep their secrets to pay any attention to him. Even when people do want to become his friend or accept him after finding out the truth, he denies himself them not wanting to make them targets.
  • Yukio deals with a severe inferiority complex, wanting to become stronger to protect his family but failing to be strong enough. His relationship with his twin is fracturing but he can't stop it without both of them giving their secrets.
  • Natsuko manages to keep a smile on her face despite dying of cancer and being alone in a hospital and her mother doesn't visit her.
  • Natsuko's mother has gone through a terrible divorce and has to watch her daughter die.
  • Yuri Egin was a teenager with her whole future ahead of her with plans to make her own branch of magic. Unfortunately, she is impregnated by Satan and everyone wants to kill her and her unborn children. But she refuses to give in and stands up for herself to protect her children.
