• Award Snub:
  • The film was not nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, despite it being one of the most praised films of the year. Its beauteous, classical cinematography was also snubbed; and its luscious soundtrack lost to Black Panther (2018).
  • While Regina King was nominated for almost every Best Supporting Actress trophy (and won quite a few), she was surprisingly left off the Screen Actors Guild Award category. An issue was the studio failed to send screeners of the film to SAG voters before the deadline. This led to King becoming the third person to win an Oscar without a SAG nomination.
• Awesome Music: We'd say the whole soundtrack by Nicholas Britell, but Agape is regarded as one of the best movie themes from 2018, and for a reason.
• One-Scene Wonder: Brian Tyree Henry's brief role and monologue about adjusting to life after jail earned a considerable amount of acclaim.
