- Adaptation Displacement: The series is based on the book Hotel Babylon, an expose of the hotel industry fictionalized as 24 hours in the life of a receptionist at a luxury 5 star hotel in London. Some characters on the show are taken from the book (Tony, Gino and James), others were created for the show (Anna, Rebecca).
- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
- At the end of the series four opening episode, the main characters dress in costume and perform a Bollywood dance number.
- Also arguably James' impromptou boogie to 'Love is in the Air', the morning after a successful date. Said date actually began with James escorting his Love Interest to a glass coach drawn by horses. Which probably counts as a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment in itself.
