• Catharsis Factor: Anytime the Asshole Victims get their comeuppance. In particular:
  • Maxine getting her revenge on Heidi by stabbing her repeatedly in the chest in "Valentine's Day".
  • Ian's punishment in "Halloween".
• Fridge Horror: Nancy, the new arrival at the end of "Halloween" says that Ian had flown her out from Maine to work for the website, which legally would be considered sex trafficking. Given the horrific way he treats the trio we see, particularly the contrast between the promises he makes over the phone and the extremely possessive "house rules", this paints a new, much more disturbing picture of how the girls got there.
• Moral Event Horizon: Heidi crosses this when she brings up Maxine's father's suicide and then mocks it.
• The Woobie: Maxine. Poor girl's father committed suicide and she's relentlessly bullied day after day. It makes her ultimate revenge all the more satisfying.
