* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** Several tracks however the John Carpenter inspired Plague Theme "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CXvBzY_grc Hunters]]" by Power Glove takes the cake.
** The use of Lisa Rougheed's "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPSNXn2vwAs Run With Us]]" (the main theme for ''WesternAnimation/TheRaccoons'') on the closing credits can be seen as an odd example, but can hit a serious nostalgia button if you were a fan of the show.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: There's a scene where Rip and Grinder are fighting an octopus. WordOfGod says that the octopus is their friend.
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** Beating a man to death with baseball bats? Disturbing. Three topless women beating a man who's hung by his feet like a pinata, followed by Drake slashing his guts open with a razor-covered baseball bat and the girls cheering? BloodyHilarious.
** Likewise the scene with Logan getting decapitated. Getting his head chopped off with barbed wire? Horrible. A woman in a bikini and fur coat dancing in the blood fountain? Hilarious.
** You know what? The whole movie ''[[UpToEleven runs on this trope.]]''
* EnsembleDarkhorse: [[EvilIsCool Rip and Grinder]], aka The Plague. So much so that they're supposedly getting their own spinoff movie.
* EvilIsCool: [[PrecisionFStrike Motherfucking]] Rip and Grinder! Seriously, a badass, demonic PsychoForHire duo who have assassinated multiple historical figures ... what's not to love?
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Abby's tussle with The Drake at the end of the movie [[spoiler: in which, after getting her hand messily destroyed with a lawn mower, she turns it around and repeatedly shanks him with the exposed arm bone!]]
* MoralEventHorizon: It's a lot harder to see Slick as the DracoInLeatherPants after he [[spoiler: incinerates a bus full of children]].
* {{Narm}}: The dramatic scenes are equally as bizarre as the rest of the film. While some may find then {{Tear Jerker}}s, others might find them simply silly, which pretty much doesn't hurt your enjoyment.
* NightmareFuel: [[spoiler:Slick and Ivan torch a school bus of kids, the shot of the kid against the window is chilling.]]
* SoBadItsGood:
** Invoked. Since it was adapted from a fake trailer for the Grindhouse series, this is to be expected.
** If anything, ''inverted.'' While the film was clearly intended to be SoBadItsGood, it's incredibly competently made and Creator/RutgerHauer puts in a performance that would be ''career-defining'' from any other actor (and only not so for Hauer because ''Film/BladeRunner'' exists).
* SpiritualLicensee: This may just be the best ''VideoGame/HotlineMiami'' film ever made. There's over-the-top violence, gangsters in white suits, tons of color, 80s-style synth music, and even some drug influence in the plot.
* TearJerker: A few scenes manage to evoke this, surprisingly. [[spoiler:Slick and Drake's last conversation]] and the Hobo's speech to the infants pull off a certain amount of emotion.
