YMMV / Hispania

Go To

  • Aluminium Christmas Trees: Yep, women really fought along with the men in ancient Hispania. The series generally butchers history left and right, but Nerea grabbing a sword and kicking ass is not merely Rule of Cool.
  • Broken Base: One of the most divisive products in Spanish TV at its time, Hispania was seen as either an entertaining series with enough drama and good actors to shine, or a poorly written and even worse produced pastiche that in the best case grabbed the So Bad, It's Good ball and ran with it.
  • Evil Is Cool: Even the harshest dissers of the series usually acknowledge Lluís Homar was just perfect in his role as Galba. It is no wonder the producers tried luck with a spinoff focused on him after the series ended.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • First episode starts heavy, with the apparent death of Viriato's daughter, next to the death of many hundreds of Hispanians.
    • Bárbara committing suicide just mere moments before Sandro reaches her in his attempt to save her.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Or TV series, in this case. Regardless of the series's concept and script, many of its cast surely tried their best with what they had. Among them, Pablo Derqui, who played Héctor and was vocal in his criticism of the series's Black-and-White Morality, worked hard to play a character who could be seen as morally ambiguous.
  • The Woobie: Héctor. His main crime was living on a World of Badass not being one. At the end, it's hard to not to feel pity for him.
