YMMV / High and Tight

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Shane is the one who "keeps the lights on", so is Scott's situation partly brought on by relying on Shane to support himself? Shane does seem to have a rather forceful personality - so could he have been oppressing Scott without knowing? Maybe Scott's motivation is brought on by a need to separate himself from letting his big brother take care of him.
    • It's left open whether Sara was romantically involved with Shane - she spends the whole party scene with him, talks like someone who knows him well to Scott and her rather blunt line about his pride sounds rather like an ex-girlfriend. What's more are she and Scott Just Friends or is there more?
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Word of God is that Kaireht Yovera "absolutely stole the show" as Becky. Her part was much smaller early on but she proved so nice and hard working that more was written for her. She was also allowed to improvise and expand her scenes on set.
    • And he later said that James Healy "came close to walking away with the film", giving Vinnie a lot of heart.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Ryan telling Scott his father said he was proud. He then confidently says that Shane will come around too. And he's right.
    • Becky returning to Vinnie. Even if you don't see what they say, it's implied they'll leave things on better terms.
    • Shane accepting Scott with a brotherly hug. And he smiles for the first time in the movie too.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Any of Scott and Seth's scenes become hilarious if you've seen Gold Standard - where Robert Madden has a small part as someone Bobby Calloway has to assassinate.
    • Thomas Fitzgerald improvised a bit of Ryan passed out drunk at the Halloween party and Scott trying to revive him. He then realised how similar it was to a scene from Aaron.
"I'm always drunk in your films, Bobby!"
    • It is also hilarious to watch after Aaron since there Bobby Calloway is the aloof older brother getting begged to accept his younger sibling.
    • In the promotional video, Robert Madden puts on a posh accent and says "my name is Prince Harry". Paul Sparkes would later play Prince Harry's bodyguard in The Crown.
  • Ho Yay: Considerably a lot between Ryan and Scott, who seem to be closer than any other pairing amongst the friends. It's also Ryan who comforts Scott as he cries in the garden.
  • Narm Charm: The drunken "Stand By Me" singing is bound to incite chuckles. But at the same time it's one of the few times the protagonists are actually happy and having fun.
  • Stoic Woobie: Seth has clearly had to grow up very fast with a war around him. Word of God is that he's making his documentary just to be able to understand why this is all happening. He even bluntly says to Scott "It wouldn't do me much good to hate you".
  • The Woobie:
    • Scott is an orphan who has realised that he's completely useless where he is, and it's pretty sad that the first big decision he's made for himself causes so much conflict with Shane. He's a Stoic Woobie for the most part until he breaks down on the evening before he's to head off.
    • Vinnie hides it beneath sass and sarcasm, but he clearly feels useless and worthless too.
    • Ryan when you think about it. He says his family laughed when he joined.
