- Fair for Its Day: The comic makes a number of jokes at the expense of Herbie's weight and appearance (including his title, "The Fat Fury") that would come off as insensitive today. However, he is otherwise presented as a thoroughly competent, no-nonsense hero who is not defined by his looks and is not portrayed as a Fat Comic Relief. Quite remarkable, for a comic first published in the 1950s.
