YMMV / Heathen City

Go To

  • Fandom Rivalry: With Circles, essentially its Spiritual Antithesis. To make matters worse this initially outperforming Circles actually cost the latter its final issues, though Circles at least would conclude its story with a potential reboot while Heathen City was cancelled after three issues.
  • Hype Backlash: When it debuted it was hyped up as a serious, dark gay furry story, alluring many in the community. Most became disappointed with the final product, which plunged into obscurity in reccord time.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic?:
    • The name Maranatha is from the Aramaic מָרַן אֲתָא Māran ʼĂṯâ of uncertain meaning, found in the New Testament at 1 Corinthians 16:22 — "If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha."
      • It gets better. Maranatha City used to be named Anathema City. It was renamed shortly before the start of the series.
    • New Orleans and Maranatha are destroyed around the same time as each other in 2005, and are in-story symbolically thought of as a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah.
