  • Covered Up: At least in their native Finland, the cover of "Wicked Game" has all but completely eclipsed the Chris Isaak original.
  • Death of the Author: Quoth Valo himself, "If you find something that fits your life or situation you're in, that makes it true." While he often infuses his own personal life's drama into his lyrics, he's a firm supporter of the idea that songs mean different things to different people and will often deliberately write vaguely just so people can make it their own, since in his view each person's interpretation of any of his songs is just as right or wrong as that of any other listener. He often refuses to explain what he meant by certain lyrics to encourage personal interpretations, or will even give multiple explanations for the same song (e.g. "Killing Loneliness" can either be a reference to drug addiction, as it was inspired by Brandon Novak's rationale for his heroin use, or a straightforward love song to a girlfriend).
  • Misaimed Fandom: Valo doesn't believe there is one for the heartagram. He loves that it has transcended its original purpose to the point that people only adorn themselves with it per the Rule of Cool rather than any actual interest in or knowledge of the band. He remarked that it has "taken on a life of its own", and that its ubiquity has made it the one thing he's most proud of having made.
  • Signature Song: "Join Me in Death" after it became their breakout hit in Europe, but for American fans it might be "Wings of a Butterfly" because it propelled their album Dark Light to gold status - making them the very first Finnish act to go gold in the US.
