- Broken Base: Being an animated adaptation of a classic show this was perhaps inevitable. Some people hated Mermaid Adventures for being a more cartoonish and kiddish version of Just Add Water with less depth and others saw it as an underappreciated gem that never got a proper chance to shine.
- Improved Second Attempt:
- The girls having individually coloured tails as mermaids seems to be one to the complaint of it being hard to differentiate the three in the original live-action series.
- There is thankfully only one occasion where the girls fall under Designated Hero and that is when they believe Lewis might reveal their secret to Abby.
- Due to marine parks and their treatment of animals making a career at such a place less acceptable, Cleo now works at an oceanic center.
- Due to the fans dislike of Ash, Emma's love interest is Byron from the first season of the original show.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: An episode featuring Rikki's father marrying Cathy was never made. Besides for costume changes, it would have made an interesting episode for Ship Tease. The next time Cathy is seen, she is already Rikki's stepmother.
