YMMV / Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes

Go To

  • Older Than They Think: This may be the first time "The Legend of Tarzan" was used in a title for a Tarzan adaptation, before ascending from subtitle to main title as it did with the continuation to the Disney film and the 2016 film.
  • Tear Jerker: The death of Silverbeard and it is a thousand times worse than Kerchak's death in the Disney film. Brought to Great Britain to be studied, the old ape is discovered in a museum by Tarzan and freed. Now free but in a strange land, Silverbeard's first instinct is to find a tree to climb into where he knows he will be safe with Tarzan following him. A crowd gathers around the tree and Lord Esker orders a guard to shoot Silverbeard. The gunshot goes off and Silverbeard falls to the ground, fatally wounded. Tarzan goes down to his foster father and the old ape gives a few grunts before succumbing to his fatal wound. Silverbeard dies a frightened animal in strange surroundings with a distraught Tarzan left screaming: "He was my father!"
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The ape suits with every one individualized and some even showing age over the course of the film. They are so effective that you ultimately forget they are just people in suits due to the individuality, the life-like look of them, the performance of the people inside them. You ultimately believe they are real apes. Of course, this was far from first (or the last) time Rick Baker made realistic apes.
