  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Uncle Joe really a nasty old man who deserves to be hated, or is simply embittered by the fact that almost all his relatives only care about his money and his brother wants nothing to do with him?
    • Joe does seem to have a few negative traits: he dismisses the oppressed migrant workers, which drove his brother away, he plays nasty pranks on his family, and while he's nice to Danny, he has no problem toying with him as well.
    • On the other hand, Molly, his own butler, and his law firm all go along with his Secret Test of Character, implying that Joe is actually nice enough that he can command that kind of loyalty. And considering the whole plot centers around determining which of his family members actually would care about him if he went broke, it is possible the moments he deceives Danny are also to see whether Danny is just an obsequious kiss ass like the rest of his family.
    • Molly herself is also an ambiguous character. Was she playing along with Joe's plan from the beginning, or was she really a prospective Gold Digger who had a genuine My God, What Have I Done? moment whose redemption convinced Joe to let her in on the scheme?
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Among the schemes, Joe's relatives put forth is declaring him incompetent so they can dump him in a home and take his money. Sadly, this is something that can happen all too often to others.
