YMMV / Good Boys

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Lily, who basically serves as The Dragon to Hannah by being the most physical threat to the boys despite being a petite teenage girl.
  • Les Yay: Given the way the ending montage uses holding hands as a sign of a relationship; after Brixlee and her friend both break up with Max, Max is seen crying while Brixlee and Taylor walk off hand in hand.
  • Spiritual Adaptation:
    • This may be considered the closest to a live-action film adaptation of South Park that we'll get.
    • With the leads being a 12-year-old kid who gets into insane situations trying to fix a problem only making things worse with every shortsighted decision they accidentally make, a snarky Nice Guy Token Black Friend whose color scheme involves orange, and a wannabe tough ladies man who thinks they're super popular when it's the opposite, this could be considered/joked about as Seth Rogen's Hard R The Amazing World of Gumball.
  • Squick: Max practices kissing on the sex doll. He then pulls a pube out of his mouth and complains it's sticky.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?:
    • The film stars three protagonist who are kids, yet the excessive use of vulgar language, swearing and adult content makes this film anything but. The marketing displayed the R-rating every chance it got to convey this.
    • In a skewed way, some reviewers have stated that they wished the film was more appropriate for children due to the sensitivity and nuance with which it deals with topics relevant to pre-teen boys, much in the same way that many wished The Edge of Seventeen, Eighth Grade and Booksmart were more accessible to teen girls.
    • In France, the film is classified as "suitable for all ages", despite the poster containing the text reading "You must be this tall to see this movie" being translated into French.
