* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: It won a Grammy. The soundtrack was the breakthrough for the then otherwise obscure indie band The Shins.
* DVDCommentary
* FollowTheLeader: It spawned a lot of terrible imitators (ex: {{Film/Elizabethtown}}) so now when you describe it, it sounds awful. One of the reasons for its severe case of SeinfeldIsUnfunny.
* FridgeBrilliance: Sam's house is a bit of a mess, but you still wonder why there are spots all over the TV, until you realize that Tetembe was dusting for fingerprints moments earlier.
* HypeBacklash: When it was first released in 2004, it was hyped as the future of independent film and Zach Braff was thought to be a breakout star in the making. Cut to the present day, where its constant imitations, mockery of what was perceived as the film's quirky {{hipster}} tendencies (most notably the infamous "Music/TheShins will change your life" scene), and the decline of Braff's career[[note]]His film career was destroyed with his acting follow-up ''The Last Kiss'', and he's barely gotten any projects at all since the cancellation of ''Series/{{Scrubs}}''. He and his brother had to finance Zach's second directorial project ''Wish I Was Here'' through Website/{{Kickstarter}}.[[/note]] have basically turned the film into a joke. In fact, one could say that, in the long run, this film and its copycats did more harm than good for independent film, causing the term "indie" to be associated with insufferable hipster stereotypes while general perception soured considerably over the next ten years many now regard it as the textbook example of overly "quirky" dramedies.
* JerkassWithAHeartOfGold: Andrew, Sam, Mark and almost everyone in the film.
* KickTheDog: Sam literally suggesting kicking dogs in the balls
* ItsPopularNowItSucks: How many people nowadays will admit they ''loved'' this movie when it first came out? Not many. But they did.
* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: See FollowTheLeader
