* AlternateCharacterInterpretation:
** Just how benevolent ''is'' Squiddington? Is he a benevolent guy that just has problems dealing with stuff that annoys him or a BitchInSheepsClothing?
** Some fans believe that Bertie is ObfuscatingStupidity after CharacterizationMarchesOn.
* AuthorsSavingThrow: After complaints that their content had gotten stale, the duo launched a new channel called "[=TheChapsPlay=]", seemingly meant as a return to their old-style playthroughs. Time will tell if it works.
* BrokenBase:
** Less noticeable, but there are occasionally comments from people that miss the early dynamic of Bertie being the OnlySaneMan, with Gamechap as the CloudCuckoolander. These comments in turn receive replies indicating the opposite for others.
** [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgement Any time they come up on Reddit]], there will be a major split.
** New channel [=TheChapsPlay=] (link [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVLXisr9rz2-09JJWINqH8Q here]]) is either a refreshing return to their roots or a deviation from their ''Smash Bros'' coverage, which had started to win fans back. There are also fans that like the content but would prefer it to be on the main channel, where it would get more coverage.
* DudeNotFunny:
** For a time, a few of their jokes had incited accusations of racism, sexism and politically incorrect content. This has died down a lot from 2014 onwards, however.
** Their banning a dyslexic user for being an "illiterate, unappreciative user with an attitude problem" caused a ''huge'' backdraft and was one of the reasons that some moderators outright quit the community.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** The duo were this for Yogscast fans even before they joined, given how erratically funny they were in the crossover videos. A good dose of CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass helped this no end, particularly in Crown Conquest.
** Squiddington himself, owing to his CharacterExaggeration over the years.
* FandomRivalry:
** While initially the duo got on well with the LetsPlay/{{Yogscast}} and their fandoms did likewise, their eventually rude response to a bit of fan criticism got them kicked out of the Yogscast. Since then, mention one group on the other's forum and you will be met with scorn (or a ban, if you post on Gamechap's). LetsPlay/HatFilms and LetsPlay/LewisBrindley in particular have been more vocal with criticism, leading to another rivalry.
** While initially somewhat popular with the ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' community even after their falling out with the Yogscast, this is no longer the case. This is partly due to Gamechap's starting a Twitter war with Marc Watson of Mojang over [[CowboyBebopAtHisComputer 500,000 accounts initially being hacked (when in reality that was not the case)]] and then not crediting an animator for his work on the bunny hopping animation.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** At one point, Gamechap and Bertie made a video regarding ''Pixelmon'' [[http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/222bia/pixelmon_mod_authors_issue_false_copyright/ which revealed some malicious programming on the part of the mod team]], and how they had been subsequently silenced. Come later in 2014, there is a Reddit post about [[http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/28qt8d/psa_warning_to_all_smaller_minecraft_youtubers_do/ a rather major scandal]] involving Gamechap's supposed stealing of fan-submitted content and his subsequent silencing of any criticism directed towards him ''and'' his past history of doing so. This was enough for large numbers of fans to disown Gamechap altogether.
** Furthermore, when a leak for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros 4'' was revealed to have data regarding Ryu and Roy (From ''Street Fighter'' and ''Fire Emblem'') returning as DLC, they reported on the information, even though it was not theirs to take and put on the internet. Then, when Nintendo decided to take the video down, they quickly produced a video which [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ14Ek7Y4tQ amounted to them moaning and whining]] about Nintendo taking down a video which the duo had no right to make, and a decision which is wholly logical on Nintendo's part. The hypocrisy is strong with this one...
* HellIsThatNoise:
** The "EEEEEEE" scream became this later on. Beware, headphone users.
** "BUUUUGGGSSSS!!"
** Bertie's Dalek voice. DEAR NOTCH.
* InternetBackdraft:
** [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgement See]] DudeNotFunny, although this has died down considerably.
** While the Yogscast fandom is known as being somewhat volatile, Gamechap caused a smaller one when he insulted them. [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgement Better leave it there]].
** Their fans were ''not'' pleased when the makers of ''Pixelmon'', a mod for ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'', filed a false copyright report on one of Gamechap's videos since they [[http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/222bia/pixelmon_mod_authors_issue_false_copyright/ revealed some malicious programming on the part of the mod team]].
** And now, this is directed ''towards'' Gamechap, with [[http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/28qt8d/psa_warning_to_all_smaller_minecraft_youtubers_do/ a rather major scandal]] involving Gamechap's supposed stealing of fan-submitted content and his subsequent silencing of any criticism directed towards him ''and'' his past history of doing so. [[http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/28qt8d/psa_warning_to_all_smaller_minecraft_youtubers_do/cidk1h5 Gamechap's rather flippant response]] merely fanned the flames.
** In general, the OrwellianEditor attitude of Gamechap is rather controversial, partly because of actual criticism being blocked and partly because some of the comments that get users blocked are neither offensive nor critical of their channel. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjPbUtbBPYc&channel=yinge101 See]] [[http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/2a9vnr/oh_gamechap_just_me_getting_my_worries_onto_paper/ further]] posts. In particular, their banning a dyslexic user for [[http://i.imgur.com/RWeOWZU.png being an "illiterate, unappreciative user with an attitude problem"]] [sic] caused outrage, resulting in a forum boycott and their subscriber numbers tanking for a while, only beginning to rise again in March 2015.
* MagnumOpus: "Quest for the Golden Monocle" is often considered one of their best works, if not the best, and it's one of their series which newer videos get compared to, some may say unfairly.
* NightmareFuel:
** Herobrine, as usual. Also, the Nightmare Golem.
** Herobrine gets MUCH scarier in the 1.3 vid about HIM being removed. At first, it looks like it's just gonna be an ordinary hilarious video about them thinking he's gone, when he's not. Then it switches to HIS point of view; all the sound is echoey, he's breathing hard, and he promptly builds a glow stone E. Then, he starts placing redstone torches. WHILE LETTING OUT A HORRENDOUS SCREAM. Then Game's door opens by itself. The music certainly doesn't help either...
* MemeticBadass: Bertie, at least when it comes to blowing things up.
* MemeticMutation:
** Anything in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjEA7BXJY9I this]] video gets quoted in the comments of that video.
** "Boobs, lol"
* WhatAnIdiot: Any time Bertie gets given Gamechap by TNT. Made acceptable by RuleOfFunny.
* WinBackTheCrowd: While the whole Yogscast and Pixelmon debacles were generally agreed to be a serious drop in quality which drove many fans away for good, they appear to have won over a new audience with their ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' content. The channel is slowly managing to win over more subscribers and their views are slowly starting to rise again.
%%* OrwellianEditor: Sometimes, they seem to pull this. [[RuleOfCautiousEditingJudgement Let's leave it at 'this has caused several scandals and major drops in subscribers.']]
