YMMV / G.I. Joe (Devil's Due)

Go To

  • Complete Monster: See here.
  • Epileptic Trees: The sudden appearance of the Battle Action Force faction the Red Shadows led to a lot of attempts to connect the operatives in the comic to the original Action Force villains. The most prominent theory was that Wilder Vaughn was actually the Black Major, but the comic narrative itself didn't confirm or deny the connection.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Charles Halifax is Europe's most dangerous assassin and mercenary, who has danced circles around the likes of the CIA, Interpol, and Cobra itself with ease. Stealthily stealing a powerful tech suit and testing it by effortlessly massacring enemy soldiers, Halifax takes the name "Wraith" and becomes even more lethal. Hired by Destro to pull off a prison break of one of the world's most secure facilities, Halifax wipes out 80% of the prison's staff and orchestrates a prison riot so as to distract from his true targets. Halifax then becomes a personal bodyguard to Destro, wiping out his rivals and protecting his interests until, seeing a better opportunity at hand, Halifax betrays Destro and captures the Baroness to hand off to America's military for a fortune and pardon for his crimes. Though eventually killed by the Baroness in revenge, Halifax gives her a tough fight and nearly escapes death by offering a partnership even with a gun in his face.
  • Tough Act to Follow: Acting as a direct sequel to G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero (Marvel) with a writer besides Larry Hama (who only wrote a handful of miniseries and one-shots for this continuity), negative comparisons were inevitable. This led to IDW and Hasbro rendering the entire thing non-canon when they did their own continuation of the Marvel Comics continuity and Hama opted to pick up where he left off at the end of the original Marvel comic when he was hired as the main writer.
