  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The mention of "the magician" as one of those who fled the sinking Atlanta, along with various real-life celebrities, can come across as this if you're unfamiliar with the Donovan song that the sequence is based on.
  • Genius Bonus: Umbriel is named after one of the first two moons discovered orbiting Uranus. The name of the other moon: Ariel.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • The multiple digs at Ted Turner and Atlanta in general are this when you remember that it was one of Ted's own networks, [adult swim] (and to a lesser extent TBS) rerunning the show so much that led to its revival.
    • The episode's Couch Gag Tag Line: "A stern warning of things to come". While this particular episode hasn't come true (yet), Futurama and especially its sister show The Simpsons have gained memetic reputations for being able to predict future events.
  • Parody Displacement: Many younger viewers probably won't realise that the sequence with Donovan narrating the sinking of Atlanta is a parody of his song "Atlantis".
