YMMV / Futari No

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • “Reunion”, while being the 7th song in the album, was the first song released to the public. It introduces some of the recurring themes that are heard throughout the series.
    • “Secret” has a different atmosphere than the other songs, with the urgent tone rivalling even that of “Reunion.” The vocals in both versions are guaranteed to cause goosebumps.
    • “Lili” is an unexpectedly metal-sounding song that conveys Lili’s feelings which she represses in her day-to-day life. It sounds a lot like Harumaki Gohan’s older music, which makes it popular with the fans who were around several years ago.
    • “Birth” is a simple song that slowly builds on its foundation to become something very impactful. It’s a fitting end to Nana and Lili’s story.
  • Delusion Conclusion: Due to the stark divergence from the normal setting, and the lack of explanation from the creator, some fans have theorized that “Secret” was all just a dream.
  • Fan Nickname: Since it took 4 songs for Harumaki Gohan to confirm the names of Nana and Lili, the community had multiple fan nicknames for them. The most common was “Pink” and “Yellow,” derived from their respective colours in "Reunion".
  • LGBT Fanbase: Futari No has its fair share of an LGBT+ following, as their close relationship as depicted in the songs has lead to speculation that they're two girls in love (with Word of God confirming that their relationship is deliberately left up for audience interpretation, leaving plenty of space for the theory that it's romantic in nature).
  • Rainbow Lens: In addition to the relationship between Lili and Nana already being oft-interpreted as romantic, aspects of the story have a lot of elements of a Coming-Out Story; they live in a world where they're the odd ones out (most of the population being robots called "adults"), find close companionship with each other after a childhood of never seeing another human like them (which could translate as a queer person meeting another queer person for the first time), their relationship is torn apart because of outside circumstances (and presumably because of arbitrary societal rules, as Lili is often noted to be from a higher-class family and presumably royalty). Furthermore, depending on how you interpret the events of Secret as real or not (see Delusion Conclusion above), Nana is shown to actively rebel against the adults and the society they've concocted (going so far as to behead an adult to save Lili from an arranged marriage) - even with the interpretation it was just a fantasy of Nana's, it's still clear she has a detestment against adult society and feels out of place within it.
  • Signature Song: At the time of writing, “Reunion” has close to 2 million views. The only other song that comes close is “The Promise,” which has less than 900K. "Reunion" is often depicted as the main song of Futari No, both by Harumaki Gohan and by fans.
  • Stuck in Their Shadow: Nana is far more popular than Lili, both with the fans and with Harumaki Gohan himself. In the fans’ case, this is most likely because Lili didn’t have much of a personality until the album was released. In some official media, Lili doesn’t even appear except when in reference to Nana, like in “If I Could Become a Comet” or the entirety of the “Their Conclusion” live.
