• The Danza: Franz is played by Franz Rogowski.
• Diagnosed by the Audience: Not only Mario's height is stunted, his development is too. Despite being an adult, he speaks in very simple, repetitive sentences, is almost always cheerful and has some inappropriate habits throughout the film.
• Narm:
  • We all know that Nazis are evil, so the scene where they shoot a boy with Down's Syndrome who's trying to run away from them (and who only appears to get shot immediately after) feels a bit too on the nose.
  • The partisans singing "Bella Ciao" can feel on the nose too on the opposite front.
  • A Jewish man named "Israel". If he were Muslim, would they have called him "Islam"?
  • For the Italian version, the protagonists speaking in Roman dialect can be either this or Narm Charm. Sure, they live in Rome, but Roman dialect is usually linked to a particular brand of crude, unsophisticated comedy, so it can detract from the seriousness of several scenes (excluding the rare moments where it's used for intentional comedy).
