- Harsher in Hindsight: The film depicts Judith's relationship with Liang as forbidden, with his family warning him that the marriage won't last. They were right. Judith and Liang divorced in 1990, the same year the Television Film was released.
- He Really Can Act: Critics praised Robin's portrayal of Liang as his best acting role in his movie career.
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- This film would not be the only time Robin and Melissa appeared in. They would go to appear on two separate episodes in season 4 on The Outer Limits (1995). Melissa would appear in Season 4 Episode Relativity Theory as xenobiologist Teresa Janovitch. Robin would appear in Season 4 Episode Nightmare as Major Ronald Neguchi. No surprise, both characters in their respected episodes do not survive their ordeal. Teresa is blown to bits with the Asshole Victim military members she was working with. Neguchi is killed by his best friend before planet Earth is destroyed by a bomb meant for the enemy planet.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Judith Shapiro is portrayed as Melissa Gilbert a.k.a Half-Pint.
- Liang Heng is portrayed by none other than Robin Shou, who became famous as Liu Kang.
- Values Dissonance: The fact that Liang was a student in Judith's classroom before getting kicked out may raise some eyebrows, as it's still seen as taboo for a teacher to pursue a relationship with a student.
