• Alternate Character Interpretation: According to this blog, Evie is not the backbone of the family but rather is secretly an Evil Matriarch whose embarrassment over Tina's predicament leads her to both sabotage her baby shower by not inviting anyone and even to potentially endanger her daughter and grandchild's health by not taking her to a better obstetrician.
• Angst? What Angst?: Compared to the rest of his family, Adam takes everything exceedingly well, but this may be due to both his youth/naivete and to being such an underdeveloped character.
• Anvilicious: The film doesn't pull any punches on being anti-abortion.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • A young Katee Sackhoff portrays a teen mother at Tina's school.
  • Julia Whalen appeared here a few years before Once and Again.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Some fans saw Tina as this due to the fact that she had sex without a condom, which could have prevented the bad things that went on in this film and for her overall brattiness, immaturity and ungrateful attitude. Even her mother angrily mentioned that her problems could have been avoided if she thought of the consequences of sex before having it.
• Suspiciously Similar Song: The song heard in the beginning and when Adam and Rachael learn of Tina's pregnancy sounds a lot like "Lovefool" by The Cardigans.
• The Woobie:
  • Tina, in spite of how insufferable she is at times, learns quickly what a huge mistake it was to get pregnant and feels from the fallout from everything, especially with her (ex-) boyfriend, Ray.
  • Evie, who is understandably stressed out and short-tempered about Cal's previous cheating and now has to deal with her teenage daughter's pregnancy.
  • Laurie is a Struggling Single Mother and although she loves her daughter dearly, wishes she had waited to have her.
  • Arguably, Rachael is the biggest one of all; in addition to dealing with her parents' marriage problems, she is understandably angered and depressed over Tina's pregnancy to the point of moving out to live with her father and is usually overshadowed by her sister's issues. Then she breaks her ankle later in the film and is still treated as an afterthought compared to Tina.
