YMMV / F-Zero X

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: No, the X Cup isn't an absurdly large bra size.
  • Breather Level: Due to the randomized nature of X Cup courses, it is possible for the game to generate a course that the CPU opponents cannot handle, causing them to spectacularly blow themselves up from bouncing off the walls or going over sharp crests that send them plunging into the abyss. From there, first place becomes a matter of finishing your three laps at your own pace.
  • Even Better Sequel: The first game isn't too shabby, being a showcase of the SNES's Mode 7 capabilities. But with this game and its jump to 3D, it paves the way for wilder course designs not unlike the kind you'd see on a roller coaster. It also greatly expands upon the playable character roster (from four characters to thirty) and introduces Vehicular Combat mechanics, two elements that have since become a staple of the series.
  • Fountain of Memes: The announcer, whose oddly low-pitch voice has endeared him to many fans and made him an extremely quotable figure, providing the series' Signature Line "YOU GOT BOOST POWER!!"
  • Porting Disaster: The Nintendo Switch Online edition of the game features overly sensitive analog controls that cause even the grippiest of machines to slide out easily, and its iconic 60 FPS visuals are kneecapped and often dip to 20-30 FPS. Its only saving grace is that it is the first F-Zero game to officially have some form of online multiplayer (by having one player be the host and the other 1-3 players using the other virtual controllers).
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: This game is notable for being a fast-paced racing game that runs at a fluid 60 FPS, unlike much of the Nintendo 64's 3D library that tends to run at 30 FPS at best, albeit with simple race vehicle textures and bare-bones environments as a tradeoff.
