YMMV / Eliot Kid

Go To

  • Aluminium Christmas Trees: Eliot Kid may sound like an appropriate name for a Kid-Appeal Character, but it's a real surname, having three origins: Middle English kid(e), meaning a young goat, where the word "kid" comes from; Middle English kidde, meaning "a bundle of wood". Cyda, an Anglo-Saxon for whom the town of Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England was named for;
  • Crazy Is Cool: A good number of episodes are Eliot using his imagination to make mundane activities more exciting rather than concocting some crazy plot because of some absurd conclusion he reached. Those episodes are more likely to make the viewer think back to their own childhood when they did the same instead of laughing at Eliot's delusions.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: One episode has Eliot imagining a foreign exchange student from Japan named Yuki as a literal alien due to his poor grasp of any language besides Japanese and advanced math skills due to Japan's differing educational standards. While this would be insanely offensive and orientalist, the fact that Eliot is sincere in his actual belief makes it hilarious.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Eliot is a lot of the times Mr. Delusional instead of Mr. Imagination due to the absurd conclusions he reaches with the flimsiest amount of evidence. The excuse of him being a kid doesn't really hold up since he's practically the only child other than his two gullible friends to reach such conclusions. But while even that could be overlooked, him constantly causing trouble because of his delusions and making others miserable whilst not ever stopping to reflect on his actions doesn't usually make him sympathetic. Overall, he's far more likable when he simply uses his imagination to enhance whatever mundane activity he's doing without ruining someone's day, such as imagining a go-kart race as a Formula 1 tournament.
