YMMV / Dwarves Vs Zombies

Go To

  • Broken Base: Many veteran players dislike Rob's development trend towards accessibility for new players, arguing that these changes make the game less desirable for the dwindling hardcore fanbase. But there are just as many others who either don't care about the changes or actively embrace them, and continue to play DvZ happily.
  • Creator Worship: Robert Moran is known on a first-name basis by his fans, and whenever he plays, the server is often filled to capacity.
  • Colbert Bump: When the game was hosted on PlayMindcrack, it became quite well-known among the Minecraft community, not just because of its association with Mindcrack, but also because members of Mindcrack occasionally played on the server and made videos. Nowadays, the game has fallen into obscurity, but whenever Rob plays, the player count often jumps up to the maximum of 500.
  • Demonic Spiders: Goblin Squad goblins are sometimes considered to be these. They spawn in vast numbers as part of a Doom Event, and their suicide explosion is strong enough to lift dwarves to fatal heights. And their explosion cannot be stopped by hitting or even killing them. They are utterly indistinguishable from normal goblins, apart from their deeper voice - which only plays when they are about to blow.
  • That One Boss: Bopen is one of the more popular Doom Event bosses among monster players. Not only can he steal gold and jump very high like his pirate lackeys, he also has the ability to bypass the current shrine, making him the bane of dwarves everywhere on the map. Oh, and he can spawn on demand, not just as part of a Doom Event. A Bopen who hides within an undefended keep can prove to be a massive headache when the dwarves are forced to fall back.
  • That One Level: Doom Rift is infamous for its highly inconvenient setting: perched on the side of a cliff, below which is the Void. It is very common for heroes to die at the first shrine, which is right near the edge.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: When the Sword of Sanctification, an extremely powerful area-clearing item, was introduced, monster players complained it was too overpowered. The sword's area of effect was deceptively very large, and was able to one-hit kill monsters from so far away they couldn't even see the sword or the dwarf who used it. Of course, Rob took these criticisms into account, and modified the SoS accordingly. Now dwarf players complain that it is too weak, as its range has been reduced, it does not hurt every player monster within that range, and even the monsters that do get hurt often survive if they have enough health. Oh well, you can't please everyone.
    • The Elven Dagger was once a knockback-immune weapon. As knockback is an integral part of the game, Rob decided it was too overpowered. So he removed the knockback immunity, much to the chagrin of Dagger users who used it specifically for its knockback immunity. Incidentally, another knockback-immune weapon, the shield, was removed for this exact reason.
