YMMV / Duck Tales S 1 E 45 Superdoo

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop: The episode could be seen as saying, "Don't try to improve yourself; know your place", which contributes to the dislike of some fans.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Were the triplets and the other Woodchucks really oblivious to their hypocrisy as they called Doofus out on his Smug Super attitude, ignoring how they treated him before, or did they know deep down that they weren't so different than him, but refused to admit it?
  • Applicability: After Doofus gets repeatedly mocked by the other Junior Woodchucks, Launchpad advises him to think more positively, and the timing of this and Doofus getting his powers causes him to rub his success at earning badges in the face of the other Woodchucks. While Doofus was definitely wrong to do that, his situation may be more than a little familiar to people who've been mocked for lacking confidence, and tried to behave in a more confident manner, only for the very same people who were mocking them to then turn around and berate them for being "arrogant".
  • Broken Aesop: The other Junior Woodchucks turn against Doofus when he becomes a Smug Super for making fun of them while he's doing better than they are. But earlier, before Doofus gained his powers, they were all making fun of Doofus for not doing as well as them, making the Junior Woodchucks a bunch of hypocrites. The episode is trying for a "two wrongs don't make a right" Aesop, but it's undermined by the others never realizing that their own behavior towards Doofus drove him into responding in kind.
  • Don't Shoot the Message: The attempted message seems to be that "two wrongs don't make a right" as Doofus was indeed wrong to use his powers to win merit badges unfairly and is praised for giving up on them. But the triplets and other kids never seem to realize that they were wrong on how they treated him and so never apologize for that and the last scene where he suffers one last slapstick moment after getting to save the day earlier implies that they're glad to have him back as a Butt-Monkey, meaning they don't seem to have learned anything about treating him better.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: While Doofus acts like a jerk after getting his powers, it's a momentary splotch on a Nice Guy character and never goes beyond Smug Super territory. Thirty years later, the reboot turned Doofus into a sociopathic Creepy Child, to some backlash in the fanbase.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: In the next episode where Doofus appears with the Woodchucks, he has about as many badges as they do, and seems to get better treatment from Huey, Dewey and Louie. While that might be a case of Series Continuity Error, it's somewhat mitigating to learn that he eventually improved his situation at the Woodchucks and finally got along with them.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The Junior Woodchucks, who turn against Doofus for doing the things they were doing to him before he became empowered, yet never consider that their own behavior might have driven Doofus into acting that way. The fact that he saves all of their lives twice, and yet they completely ignore this in favor of chewing him out over his unfairly-earned badges, just makes them look more like a bunch of petty jerks.
