• Cliché Storm: As far as the designs and characterizations of the fighters go, at least one reviewer, Craig Harris of IGN, felt it guilty of this. To quote him from his article: "These fighters are rather uninspired in their character designs, lacking any real memorable flair. You've got Efe, a robed swordsman; Kanae a Japanese swordswoman; Brandon, a shirtless swordsman...okay, you get the picture. Each of these characters have their own crazy attacks and text after winning a bout, but it's obvious that these fighting guys and gals won't ever get their own fanclub, spinoff, or even a future sequel."
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Kanae seems to have become the most recognized character on the roster, given that her character backstory was one of the few that didn't come off as bland. So much that the sequel, Slashers: The Power Battle, has made her twin sister Mirei playable as a rival to her. Also interesting to note that Stun Games' Twitter account even uses an image of Kanae as their profile portrait.
• Fridge Brilliance: The creators overlooked the fact that the The Knights Templar, of which of one character (Duke Andre) is stated to be part of this knightly order, had ceased existing in 1312 long before the time of Dual Blades/Slashers' setting of the late Eighteenth century. However the creators also lucked out on the fact that the Portuguese branch of that military order broke off and reconstituted itself as the Order of Christ of which still exists to the present. The Duke being given the personal name "Andre", of which is common in Portugal and other Lusophone regions of the world, is also another amusing coincidence.
• Homegrown Hero: Efe, an Ottoman warrior, is the de-facto protagonist in this Turkish made video game series.
• Sequel Displacement: Seems to be the case given that while Slashers is presented as "Throwback to classic 2D fighting games" for which a few YouTube reviewers have praised, few realize that it is a sequel to the older game Dual Blades that was released for the Gameboy Advance. Granted the fact that game was largely obscure and that Stun Games hasn't brought up that connection largely contribute to this.
• So Okay, It's Average: An overall consensus among reviewers of Dual Blades with Metacritic giving it aggregated rating of 61/100.
