YMMV / Dolls (1995)

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: This pops up in many of the stories, especially concerning the Plant Dolls.
    • Does Olympia really feed off of misery and despair, or is she simply a defective, non-malicious Plant Doll?
    • In Quicksand, is the Plant Doll leading the sickly boy into the woods to heal him (as her presence had resulted in the boy becoming healthier), or there something more sinister afoot?
    • When had the young girl and the Potpourri Doll actually switched places? By the end of the story, the father confuses his daughter for the doll and drags her back to the shop, screaming he never wants to see "it" again. Yet had that been the moment the two girls were confused for each other, or had the girl swapped places with her doll much earlier in the story. At no point did the girl even try to tell her father she wasn't the Plant Doll.
  • Spiritual Successor: Can be considered one to Pet Shop of Horrors. Both manga revolve around mysterious merchandise (pets in Pet Shop of Horrors, living, life-sized Plant Dolls in Dolls) that are sold by enigmatic shopkeepers who issue warnings on how the customer needs to treat their new family member. Both series are episodic and focus on a new customer each chapter (although PSOH also has an overarching plot). The stories in both manga range from horrific and depressing to heartwarming and uplifting. And finally, both manga are gorgeously drawn, featuring lots of Costume Porn.
