- Base-Breaking Character: Molly. Some fans love her for being a strong (and hilarious) female character that was absent from earlier books. On the other hand, some hate her for coming off as unfunny, and for her rude statements to Petey in Mothering Heights.
- Li'l Petey. Some fans think he is a cute new mainstay that adds depth to the series. Others think he is an annoying tag-along kid that took away too much focus from the titular character.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: In Dog Man and Cat Kid, a Dog Man movie was being made and by Brawl of the Wild, it was finished. 2 years after Brawl of the Wild was released, a real Dog Man movie was revealed to be in development by DreamWorks Animation, and by January 2024, a release date was set for January 2025.
- Moe: Li'l Petey is utterly adorable.
- Nightmare Fuel: In A Tale of Two Kitties, Mecha Flippy starts to chase Li´l Petey and the panels zoom into his mouth. You can also see the sharp teeth! Yikes.
- Older Than They Think:
- Dog Man was mentioned in the first Captain Underpants book and a shorter version of what would become "A Hero is Born" was featured in the ninth.
- "The Tongue of Justice" and "The Wrath of Petey", two comics from the period when George and Harold first met up were featured as extras in the color reissues of the second and third Captain Underpants books.
- Tear Jerker: Now has it's own official page.
